Nathan Ormond picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in the Race 2 at the Charlotte Speedway when his #24 Pontiac completed 29 of the 30 laps under power.
The finish came in his 2nd career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 2nd for car #24 and the 4th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 18th for the #24 and 308th for running at the finish.
After retiring after competing in Season 4 of the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series, Nathan Ormond decided to come back and competed in the Cup Series's second ever season. After collecting 4 career wins, Ormond was looking to find success in the SCRL's highest division, signing on to drive the full 19 schedule season for owner Dick Clothier. Ormond would qualify an impressive 7th in his first ever attempt at Beach & Road Course, but would be involved in the lone caution of the day and would finish in 36th place.
The entry list for the second ever trip to the 0.750 mile dirt track in Charlotte North Carolina was bumped down to the 30 full time drivers as the track was unable to fit all full and part time drivers.
In qualifying, defending SCRL Grand National Series Champion Sebastian Torres would score his first career pole with a impressive lap time of 25.497 seconds and a speed of 211.790 mph, setting a record for the fastest time ever in a Cup Series qualifying session. Nathan was one of the twenty eight other drivers who was unable to pass inspection in time to get out on the track and had to setting for starting in 25th. Starting last in the race was the #42 Petty Special Plymouth of Dallas Jordan.
On race day, Dallas would trail for only the first turn before knocking the #100 Ford of Marcus Saatchi into the last place as Saatchi would trail for the first two laps before knocking Ormond down to last on Lap 3. No one would have guessed it at the time, but the battle for last ended right then, as Ormond would struggle around the dirt track, losing a lap to leader Joe Jefferson on Lap 18 and was never able to recover.
Finishing in 29th was the #43 Buick of Christian Russel, 28th was the #20 Oldsmobile of Kaitlyn Coyne and 27th was the #14 Lincoln of Chris Kyle, all of whom would lose a lap to the race leaders in the last ten laps of the race.
Rounding out the Bottom Five in 26th was the #59 Lincoln of Zachary Fitzwater.
