CUP: Race long battle at Dayton ends with Tyler Mills scoring his first career last-place finish

Tyler Mills picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Race 7 at the Dayton Speedway when his #2 Cadillac completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 7th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #2 and the 7th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 17th for the #2 and 311th for running at the finish.

Tyler is still in the early stages of his SCRL career, making his debut in the SCRL Busch Grand National Series, a season in which he trailed the field one time at Hickory, but had failed to visit victory lane. Mills made his cup series debut by finishing 38th at Daytona Beach after being caught up in the race's lone wreck on the first lap, a career best 5th at Charlotte would be followed with a 34th at Langhorne, 20th at Martinsville, 29th at Canfield before finishing a career and series best 3rd in the last round at Vernon.

The entry list for the fifth time this season would be only the part-time drivers, as the track wasn't big enough to fit all the full and part-time drivers.

In qualifying, Brian Fox would score his first career pole with a time of 18.701 seconds. Tyler would struggle around the half mile paved track, posting a time of 19.009, while he was only 0.308 seconds off Fox's time, it would place Tyler in 23rd. Starting last in the race was the #10 of Jeremy Ickle, who posted a time of 19.196, 0.495 seconds behind Fox's pole winning time.

On race day, Ickle would trail for the first lap before knocking the #48 Ford of Jay Jefferson into last on Lap 2 as Jefferson would trail for two laps before knocking Ickle back to last on Lap 4. Ickle would remain in last for only one lap before knocking Jefferson back to last again on Lap 5, but Ickle would return to the final spot on Lap 6. Ickle would remain in the final spot once again for only one lap, knocking the #89 of Austin Hiller into last on Lap 7, a position he would hold for two laps before knocking the #65 Brandon Mayhew into last on Lap 9.

Mayhew would trail for three laps before he knocked Mills back to last for the first time on Lap 12. Mills would trail for the next three laps before knocking Brandon back to last on Lap 16, but Brandon would fight back and knocked Tyler back to last for good on Lap 17. Mills tried his hardest around the tough passing half mile track but actually fell almost a full second behind the car in front of him by the time the checkered flag waved.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were; 29th was the aforementioned #65 of Brandon Mayhew, 28th as the #64 of Randy Mayhew, 27th was the #89 of Austin Hiller and 26th was the #48 of Jay Jefferson.
