CUP: Rookie Bruce Webster trails for the first time in his SCRL career in caution free race at Martinsville

Bruce Webster picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in the Race 4 at the Martinsville Speedway when his #9 Plymouth completed all 50 laps under power.

The finish came in his 4th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #9 and the 5th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #9 and 309th for running at the finish.

Entering the second ever season of the newly renamed SCRL Grand National Series, Bruce Webster had never completed in a SCRL sanctioned race but was able to sign up to complete full time for a possible championship in his first ever attempt. Bruce would finish 16th at Daytona Beach in his first ever start, 11th at Charlotte before finishing a career best 4th in the last round at Langhorne.

The entry list for the second time this season would be only the part-time drivers, as a the track wasn't big enough to fit all the full and part-time drivers.

In qualifying, Langhorne last-place finisher the #6 Fabulous Hudson Hornet Hudson of Nick Kennedy would score his first career pole with a time of 28.941 seconds. Webster would post a time of 29.277, only 0.336 seconds off Webster's time, placing him in 21st, the worst starting position of the season for him. Starting last in the race was the #11 Ford of Bob Joseph, who posted a time of 29.742, a full 0.801 seconds behind Kennedy's pole winning time.

On race day, Joseph would struggle around the dirt half mile track's rough surface, trailing for the first two laps before knocking the #20 Oldsmobile of Kaitlyn Coyne into the last spot on Lap 3. Coyne was determined to last finish last for the first time in her career, trailing for only two laps before knocking the #43 Buick of Christian Russel to last on Lap 6, Russel however would fight back as one lap later he knocked Coyne back to last the next lap on Lap 7. Coyne would struggle to gain any grip of control of her car for the next twenty two laps, remaining in the final position until finally knocking Bruce back to last on Lap 30. Bruce tried his hardest to get back around but ran out of time, finishing last for the first time in his short career.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were; 29th was Daytona Beach last-place finisher the #44 Daytona Motors Cadillac of Chase Miller, 28th was the #87 Griffin Motors / Darlington Intl. Raceway Oldsmobile of Doug Hart, 27th was the aforementioned #20 of Kaitlyn Coyne and 26th was the #91 Ford of AJ Jones.
