CUP: Caution free race at Hamburg gives Brent Davison the first last-place finish of his short career

Brent Davison picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Race 12 at the Hamburg Speedway when his #97 Mercury completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 12th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #97 and the 10th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #97 and 314th for running at the finish.

Davison was one of several drivers not only making their SCRL debuts in the second season of the SCRL Grand National Series, but also making their debuts in the entire league, with Davison signing on to compete full time with hopes of battling for wins and maybe even a championship. He's cup and league career would start of an a impressive way by finishing 4th in his first ever start at Daytona Beach and scoring a runner up finish to Joe Jefferson in the very next race at Charlotte. A disappointing 14th at Langhorne, would be followed by a 9th at Martinsville, a 26th at Canfield, 19th at Vernon, 22nd at Dayton, 16th at Monroe, 15th at the second Charlotte event, 25th at Hillsborough before finishing 15th at the last round at the second Dayton event.

The entry list for the ninth time this season would be only the part-time drivers, as the track wasn't big enough to fit all the full and part-time drivers.

In qualifying, Dallas Jordan would score his first career pole with a time of 21.038 seconds. Davison would struggle on his qualifying lap around the bumpy half mile track, posting a time of 21.276, while only 0.238 seconds off Jordan's time, it would place Jones in 23rd. Starting last in the race was the #11 Oldsmobile of Bob Joseph, who posted a time of 21.460, 0.422 seconds behind Jordan's pole winning time.

On race day, Joseph would trail for the first lap before knocking the #21 Lincoln of Roger James into last on Lap 2, a position that James would hold for one lap before knocking the #89 Ford of Austin Hiller into last on Lap 3. Hiller would trail for two laps before knocking the #48 Ford of Jay Jefferson into last on Lap 5, a spot he would hold for only one lap as well before passing and knocking spring Dayton last-place finisher the #2 Cadillac of Tyler Mills.

Mills would trail for the next two laps before knocking the #16 Buick of Sebastian Torres into last on Lap 9, as Torres would trail for two laps himself before knocking spring Charlotte last-place finisher the #24 Pontiac of Nathan Ormond, who would trail for two laps as well before knocking the #87 Griffin Motors / Darlington Intl. Raceway Oldsmobile of Doug Hart into last on Lap 15. Hart would continue the trend, trailing for two circuits before passing the #43 Buick of Christian Russel into last on Lap 17. Russel would trail for another two laps himself before knocking Davison into last for the first time on the final lap, as Davison would trail over the last half mile to get back around but didn't have enough time and would trail for the first time in his short career.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were: 29th was the #24 of Nathan Ormond, 28th was the #43 of Christian Russel, 27th was two-time last-place finisher the #91 Plymouth of AJ Jones and 26th was the #87 of Doug Hart.
