Chris Henry picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Race 9 at the Charlotte Speedway when his #3 Ford completed 29 of the 30 laps under power.
The finish came in his 8th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #3 and the 9th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 22nd for the #3 and 313th for running at the finish.
Entering the second ever cup season, Henry had never competed in a SCRL race, but still was able to secure himself a full time ride in hopes of performing well and maybe winning a championship in his first ever attempt. In his debut race, Henry would finish 15th at Daytona Beach, 21st at Charlotte, a career best 6th at Langhorne, 21st at Martinsville, 13th at Canfield, 27th at Vernon before finishing 10th at Dayton. In just his eighth career start, Henry would start second at Monroe and would trail for the first thirteen laps before passing defending champion Sebastian Torres with seven laps to go and would go on to score his first career SCRL win.
The entry list for the seventh time this season would be only the part-time drivers, as the track wasn't big enough to fit all the full and part-time drivers.
In qualifying, Justin Appleby would score his first career pole with a time of 28.987 seconds. Henry was one of twenty nine drivers who was unable to post a time in qualifying around the 0.750 mile dirt track with Henry rolling off in 25th. Starting last in the race was the #97 Mercury of Brent Davison.
On race day, Brent would trail for only two turns before knocking the #10 Plymouth of Jeremy Ickle into last on the backstretch, as Ickle would trail for two laps before he would knock Henry back into last. Knowing knew it at the time, but the battle for last had ended right at that moment, as Henry would struggle for grip around the track over the remaining seventeen laps, as he would fall more then eighteen seconds behind the race leaders and finish only four car lengths in front when the checkered flag waved.
Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers were; 29th was the #89 Ford of Austin Hiller, 28th was the #88 Ford of Brian Fields, 27th was Daytona Beach last-place finisher the #44 Daytona Motors Cadillac of Chase Miller and 26th was the #43 Buick of Christian Russel.
