West: Alejandro Yepez involved in early wreck at Pikes Peak

Alejandro Yepez picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CatDog Pro Series West career in today's NAPA 150 Presented by NAPA Belts & Hose at the Pikes Peak International Raceway when his #18 Interstate Batteries Toyota was involved in a multi-car accident after 2 of the 25 laps.

The finish came in Yepez's 3rd career series start.

Coming into Season 1 of the SCRL CatDog Pro Series West, Yepez had yet to make his mark in the SCRL, having completed in several series but had yet to score that first win. Finishes of 18th at Daytona and 19th at Fontona had left him in the middle of the points as the series heading up to Pikes Peak.

Starting last on the field was the #24 Cabinets by Hayley Toyota of Carter Friesen but his stay in last would only last the first two turns as Yepez would drop back to last on the first lap while on the second lap, trouble broke out on the backstretch when Yepez getting involved in the crash and then coming back around to the line Yepez again struck another car. Crossing the line in last at the end of lap two was the #21 Rockwell / Golden Gate Meat / Bay Bio Diesel driven by Von Kasier who had recieved damage during the backstretch wreck. As the field made it's way to lap three, Yepez made his way to pit road where the crew found the damage was too much and retired the #18.

Rounding out the bottom five were drivers who finished the race under power: the #88 Pick-N-Pull Chevrolet driven by Steve Larker, the #30 unsponsored Dodge driven by Daniel Bouchard, the aforementioned #21 driven by Von Kasier and the #14 unsponsored Toyota of Ryan Bowyer.
