BUSCH: "Big One" at inaugural race in Milwaukee places Derek Greene last for the third time in his short career

Derek Greene picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Busch Grand National Series career in Sunday's Red Carpet 200 at the Milwaukee Mile when his #2 Kopy King Pontiac was eliminated in a multi-car accident after 6 of 20 laps.

The finish occurred in his 10th career series start. In the SCRL Busch Series, it's the 1st for car #2 and the 31st from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 16th for the #2 and 277th from a crash.

Derek is still a rookie in the SCRL, having only completed one full time season in his career, the SCRL CART Series, a season he would score two last-place finishes, at Trenton and in the season finale at Phoenix. Greene would come back for more, as he would drive full time in his first ever Busch season, a season that started off with a 25th at Daytona, 3rd at Richmond after leading 21 laps, and a 8th at Rockingham before scoring back-to-back 20th place finishes at Hickory and Martinsville. A 26th at Darlington, 11th at Orange County and a 7th at Nashville would be followed up with a 15th in the last round at Langley.

The entry list for the fifth time this season would be the full drivers and part-time drivers traveling to Milwaukee in the series first ever stop at the legendary one mile track.

In qualifying, Derrick Edison would make history by becoming the first driver to ever win a pole at Milwaukee with a lap time of 28.081 seconds. Greene would struggle in qualifying, posting a time of 28.223, 0.142 seconds off Edison's pole, placing him 30th overall. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #88 Service Specialties Pontiac of Rohan Marmot, who posted a time of 28.312 seconds, 0.231 seconds behind Edison's pole winning time.

On race day, Rohan would trail for the first four turns when coming off the final turn, the unsponsored #1 Lindy White Racing Pontiac of David Beyers made slight contact with the #16 Big Orange Market Pontiac of Juniper Skunktaur, causing Beyers to lose control and smack the outside wall before coming across the track and made contact with Greene as well as the #14 Banner House Handbags Pontiac of Christian Russel, as Russel would get severe front end damage and spun out on the frontstretch, making contact with the inside wall, bringing out the race's first caution. Seconds later a multi car crash would break out on the backstretch, during with the #23 Miller High Life Oldsmobile of Samet Ozkan would be spun out by his teammate, the #22 Miller High Life Oldsmobile of Tyler Ferris, sending Ozkan into the inside wall driver door first and would force Ozkan to pit for repairs, losing a lap in the process. Ozkan was running with the leaders when the green went back racing as he tried to get his lap back when the battle for last came to a sudden halt just two turns later.

As the field was racing for 6th, the #30 RC Cola Pontiac of Chakat Duskwatcher made contact with two time last-place finisher the #28 Skoal Bandit Pontiac of Jack Lagasee, as Lagasee would spin up the track and hit the outside wall before coming back across the track, as a "Big One" would break out on the track. Greene, who was riding around in the back of the pack pulled to the inside of the track to try and avoid the wreck, but the #45 Luck Stone / Dryden Oil Pontiac of Boston Jones had come down at that moment and Greene slammed hard into him, destroying the front end of Greene's car as well as David Beyers car, as both drivers would limp back to the pits before pulling behind the wall, both cars being scored as having completed six laps, with Greene being scored last and Beyers in 39th.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who was able to limp around one more lap before pulling behind the wall; 38th was the aforementioned #28 of Jack Lagasee, 37th was the #19 Steve's Radiator Service Pontiac of Finn Smith and 36th was the #13 D & D Tattooing Pontiac of Chakat Blackpaw.
