BUSCH: Tire problems at Hickory gives Jeff White the first last-place finish of his SCRL career

Jeff White picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Busch Grand National Series career in Friday's Mountain Dew 200 at the Hickory Motor Speedway when his #07 Bob Banning Pontiac completed 18 of the 20 laps under power.

The finish occurred in his 4th career series start. In the SCRL Busch Series, it's the 1st for car #07 and the 23rd for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #07 and 290th for running at the finish.

Entering the third season of the Busch Series, White was one of sixteen drivers not only making their Busch Series debuts, but would also be making his overall SCRL start, as he was able to find a full time ride in his first ever SCRL attempt. White would be involved in the second "Big One" at Daytona and would finish a disappointing 32nd, qualifying second at Richmond and would lead 9 laps before finishing runner up to Finn Smith before finishing 36th in the last round at Rockingham after being caught up in another "Big One" early in the race.

The entry list for Hickory would be knocked back down to only the full time drivers, which would be for the second time this season a field of 25 cars competing at the 0.363 mile short track.

In qualifying, future SCRL Hall of Famer and defending Busch Series Champion Chakat Whitelion won the pole for the first time in hir career with a lap time of 18.356 seconds. White would struggle in qualifying, posting a time of 18.708, while 0.352 seconds off Whitelion's pole, it placed him 22nd overall. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #45 Luck Stone / Dryden Oil of Boston Jones, who posted a time of 18.829 seconds, 0.473 seconds behind Whitelion's pole winning time.

On race day, Jones's stay in last would only last for two turns as he knocked the #12 unsponsored Ellis Racing Pontiac of Tyler Mills into last, a position Mills would hold for two laps before White would enter the battle for last for the first time on Lap 3. White was in the final spot for only one lap before he knocked the #6 Mason Day Paving Chevrolet of Chris Kyle into last on Lap 4. Kyle would trail for two laps before knocking the #42 Benefit Development Pontiac of Jake Thomas into last on Lap 7, while running in last for the next two laps, the battle for last would come to an end one lap later. While running in 19th, White's car began to slow going into Turn 2, luckily the drivers behind him were able to avoid as White stalled in Turn 2, bringing out what would be the race's lone caution, taking the final spot on Lap 10. White's car was pushed back to the pits by a tow truck as his team would replace all four tires and sent their driver back out onto the track, two laps behind the leaders, but with no other driver having problems over the final laps, White was the lone driver to not finish on the lead lap.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who would finish on the same lap as the race leaders; 24th was the aforementioned #6 of Chris Kyle, 23rd was the #42 of Jake Thomas, 22nd was the #30 RC Cola Pontiac of Chakat Duskwatcher and 21st was the unsponsored #97 Hill Racing Pontiac of Blaine Hayes.
