BUSCH: Late fuel system problems places Season 1 Champion Jack Lagasee last at Richmond

Jack Lagasee picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Busch Grand National Series career in Tuesday's Wrangler 150 at the Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway when his #28 Skoal Bandit Pontiac completed all 40 laps under power.

The finish, which occurred in his 66th career series start, was his first on the circuit since June 6th 2018, the Coca-Cola 200 at the South Boston Speedway when he was involved in a multi-car crash after 3 of the 30 laps; 17 races ago. In the SCRL Busch Series, it's the 2nd for car #28 and the 22nd for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #28 and 289th for running at the finish.

Entering his third straight season driving for the same team and car, Jack entered Season 3 trying to find redemption, as after winning three races in route to winning the inaugural championship in Season 1, Jack would find disappointment in Season 2, while he would win for the second year in the series by winning at South Boston, all Jack could do is finish a disappointing 4th in points. Coming back to drive for the third straight season for the same team, Jack got his third season off with another disappointment after being collected up in the race's second "Big One" and finishing 29th.

The entry list for Richmond would be only 25 cars, as the full time drivers were the only ones allowed to race due to the track only able to hold a small amount of cars at the 0.542 mile short track.

In qualifying, rookies Derek Greene and Jeff White would impress, with both drivers posting an identical lap time of 22.912 seconds, with the pole being awarded to Greene since he posted the time first, giving him his first career pole in just his second attempt. Jack would show he had speed as well posting a time of 22.998, only 0.086 seconds off Greene's pole, placing Lagasee 3rd. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #15 Hendrick Honda Pontiac entry of Chase Miller, posting a time of 23.446 seconds, 0.534 seconds behind Greene's pole winning time.

On race day, the battle for last would be an intense one from the start as Miller would quickly knock the #6 Mason Day Paving Chevrolet of Chris Kyle into last on the first lap, before Kyle would knock Daytona last-place finisher the #00 Thomas Bros. Country Ham Oldsmobile of Jeremy Ickle into last on Lap 2. Ickle would remain in last for only one lap before knocking the unsponsored #97 Hill Racing Pontiac of Blaine Hayes into last on Lap 3, but the next time around the unsponsored #1 Shepherd Racing Oldsmobile of David Byers into last on Lap 4. Byers would trail for two laps before knocking Hayes back to last on Lap 3, a spot he would be in for two laps as well before knocking Daytona race winner the #14 Banner House Handbags Oldsmobile of Christian Russel into last on Lap 8. Russel would remain in two laps before knocking Hayes back to last on Lap 10, with Byers taking the spot on Lap 12, Russel again on Lap 14, Kyle on Lap 16, Byers on Lap 17 and Russel again on Lap 18.

At this point, Russel was losing touch with the pack while Jack Lagasee began to slowly fall from his 3rd starting spot, reporting of a problem with his car, Russel would fight back and knocked Kyle back to last on Lap 24, with Kyle trailing for the next three laps before knocking Russel back to last on Lap 27. Jack at this time had fallen outside of the Top 20 and was reporting of a fuel system problem, falling back to last on Lap 31 and would barely avoid going a lap down just as the leaders took the checkered flag.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were; 24th was the aforementioned #14 of Christian Russel, 23rd was the #1 of David Byers, 22nd was the #48 Williford Prod. Builders Pontiac of Matt McIntyre and 21st was the #6 of Chris Kyle.
