Jack Lagasee picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Busch Grand National Series career in Saturday's Hampton 200 at the Langley Field Speedway when his #28 Skoal Bandit Pontiac completed all 20 laps under power.
The finish, which occurred in his 73rd career series start, was his first on the circuit since the Wrangler 150 at the Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway when he completed all 40 laps under power; 7 races ago. In the SCRL Busch Series, it's the 3rd for car #28 and the 28th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 15th for the #28 and 295th for running at the finish.
After trailing for the first time since Richmond, Jack would come back with a 3rd place finish in the next round at Rockingham, 16th at Hickory, 16th at Martinsville, 3rd at Darlington, 20th at Orange County before finishing in 3rd place for the third time this season in the last round at Nashville.
The entry list for the third race in a row would be the usual 25 cars of the full time drivers, with the part time drivers not scheduled to return in the next round at the Milwaukee Mile.
In qualifying, Chakat Whitelion would score the second pole of hir Busch Series career with a lap time of 19.007 seconds. Jack, the Season 1 Champion, would struggle in qualifying, posting a time of 19.342, 0.335 seconds off Whitelion's pole, placing him 20th overall. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #30 RC Cola Pontiac of Chakat Duskwatcher, who posted a time of 20.946 seconds, 0.477 seconds behind Whitelion's pole winning time.
On race day, Duskwatcher would trail for only the first turn before shi would knock Darlington last-place finisher the #6 Mason Day Paving / Valvoline Chevrolet of Chris Kyle, as Kyle would trail for the first lap around the 0.395 mile short track, with Kyle remaining in the final spot for the first five laps, before Kyle would pass two time last-place finisher the #48 Williford Prod. Builders Pontiac of Matt McIntyre, who would trail for only two laps before Jack would fall back into last for the first time. Jack would struggle for the next few laps to stay caught up with the pack in front of him, falling almost a full second behind, and with no cautions flying during the event, Jack would easily finish last for the second time this season.
Rounding out the Bottom Five were; 24th was the #32 Econo Lodge / Budweiser Pontiac of Riley Spurlytube, 23rd was Daytona last-place finisher the #00 Thomas Bros. Country Ham Oldsmobile of Jeremy Ickle, 22nd was the aforementioned #48 of Matt McIntyre and 21st was the #8 Wrangler Jeans Pontiac of Cassie Dent.
