LEGENDS: Broken camshaft gives Zachary Fitzwater second last-place finish in the Legends Series at Ontario just seconds before Derrick Edison's crash

Zachary Fitzwater picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Ontario 500 at the Ontario Motor Speedway when his #8 unsponsored Ford fell out with camshaft problems after completing 1 of the 20 laps.

The finish, which came in his 29th start, was his first on the circuit since the Season 3 Virginia 500 at the Martinsville Speedway when he was involved in a multi-car crash after 2 of the 50 laps, 18 races ago. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 4th for car #8 and the 4th for camshaft issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 15th for the #8 and the 31st for camshaft issues.

Fitzwater is one of the most longest active and most successful drivers in the five year history of the SCRL, having picked up 11 career wins and is a former two time champion, his first championship coming in Season 3 of the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series and his most recent coming in Season 7 of the SCRL IROC Series. In his first race in his second ever Legends season, Fitzwater finished 13th at Riverside. In his only other start at Ontario in the SCRL, Fitzwater struggled as he was knocked out in a early crash, finishing 34th.

On race day, Fitzwater rolled off starting in 5th while starting last was the #21 60 Minute Cleaners Mercury Cyclone of Bryan McKayson, a spot he would hold for only one turn as he knocked the #68 Auto Specialists / Auto Lad Ford of Trevor Collins into the final spot, but it was Riverside race winner the #10 unsponsored Ford of Sammy Sabre Jr. who would trail for the first lap. Just as the field ran down the backstretch, Fitzwater's car began to smoke as he quickly pulled to the apron to get out of the way of the drivers in Turn 3. As he coasted into the pits, a chain reaction started as the #32 Bestline Products Plymouth of Derrick Edison was bumped from behind and pushed up into Sabre Jr., sending Edison for a wild flip before landing on all four wheels. Despite going farther then Edison, Fitzwater was scored in last while Edison was scored 41st.

Finishing in 40th was the aforementioned #10 of Sammy Sabre Jr., who limped around the track with severe right side damage, and while he finished a lap down, he was running at the finish. The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders; 39th was the #64 Woodfield Ford of Josh Nixey and 38th was the #5 unsponsored Dodge of Logan Bueckert.

LEGENDS: Camshaft problems give Nathan Ormond his first last-place finish of career in series debut at Riverside

Nathan Ormond picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Riverside 500 at the Riverside International Raceway when his #72 DeWitt Enterprises Mercury fell out with camshaft problems after completing 12 of the 19 laps.

The finish came in his 1st start. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 4th for car #72 and the 3rd for camshaft issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #72 and the 30th for camshaft issues.

Nathan was one several drivers who were making their first ever SCRL starts along with Bob Joseph, Jimmy Sampson, Leroy Jones, Ty Dent, Brayon McKayson Sylas Nixey and of course the creator of LASTCAR and the inspiration of this entire blog, Brock Beard who was driving the same car that J.D. McDuffie drove back in 1970. Among the drivers that were making their debuts several big names were also missing: Season 1 Champion Truttle, Season 2 Champion Bulldog67 and Nitahbk, who had all competed in all previous three seasons were not able to sign up for the season. Also starting in his 4th and final season was SCRL creator Oreius Centaur, who announced he would retire from driving in all leagues to full focus on the day to day operations of the SCRL.

On race day, Ormond rolled off starting in 35th while starting last was the #43 Plymouth By Petty Plymouth of Oreius Centaur, competing in his final spring Riverside event, a track he had never won at in his career. Oreius's stay in the final spot lasted only one turn as he knocked the #29 unsponsored Chevrolet of Marko Tellez into the final spot, but just like Oreius, Tellez wouldn't be in last for long, knocking the #6 unsponsored Dodge of Adam McDowell into the final spot. McDowell would struggle to find the balance on his car around the 2.620 mile road course, falling nearly five seconds behind the race leaders, and would be in the final spot till Lap 7 when he knocked the #22 unsponsored Dodge of Sebastian Torres into the final spot.

Torres would himself struggle around the road course for the next four laps until he knocked McDowell back into the spot for Lap 12 and it appeared McDowell would get his first ever SCRL last-place finish, however one lap later that would change. While running in 30th going down the long backstretch before Turn 8, Ormond's car began to smoke heavily before finally losing power entering Turn 9 and coasted into the pits and into his pit stall. His crew looked under the hood and discovered the camshaft was completely broken and with twelve laps in there wouldn't be enough time to repair it, so the team pushed the car behind the wall, the car officially being listed as "out" at the start of Lap 14.

The remaining Bottom Five would finished the caution free race on the lead lap; 41st was the aforementioned #6 of Adam McDowell, 40th was the #31 unsponsored Dodge of Carter Friesen, 39th was the #4 Mills Plumbing Dodge of Mitchell Collins and 38th was the aforementioned #22 of Sebastian Torres.

Making his SCRL debut was the owner and creator of LASTCAR, Brock Beard, driving the same #70 Ford J.D. McDuffie drove in 1970. Brock started 7th and remained in the Top 10 for the entire event, before scoring a 5th place finish in his first ever SCRL start.

On race day, Mests would roll off starting in the 40th spot while the #88 unsponsored Pontiac of Keith Stevens started last when the green flag dropped. A caution free raced allowed for the races to be given a great showing as would swap nine times among five drivers, while the same could be same for the battle for last, but details on just how many times has been lost due to poor record details, but it is known that by the time the Checkered Flag was flown Mests was more then ten seconds behind the race leaders, and the first last-place finish of his busch career was his.

CANADA: Flat tire at the start of the race keeps Eddie Wycombe in the final spot at Kawartha

Eddie Wycombe picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in the Season 2 Pinty's 250 Presented by Dodge at the Kawartha Speedway when his #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare Dodge completed 21 of the 25 laps under power.

The finish came in his 12th career start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series, it's the 1st for car #47 and the 8th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #47 and the 158th for running at the finish.

Despite the fact that Wycombe is a two time winner in the SCRL, with his first coming in the SCRL CatDog Pro Series West Season 1 finale at Sonoma, and the second in the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series at Thompson, Wycombe is still trying to make a name for himself and become a well known name. Having competed in several series, Wycombe hadn't raced in the Canadian Series until this season. Wycombe finished a disappointing 28th at CTMP, a 6th at ICAR, 23rd at CTMP Oval, 30th at Delaware, 24th at Motoplex, 7th at Edmonton, 17th at Auto Clearing, 27th at Trois-Rivieres and a series best at Montreal. A finish of 13th at Barrie and a 9th at Riverside placed Wycombe 15th in points heading into the final race.

On race day, Wycombe rolled off starting 17th while starting last was Season 1 SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series SCRLASTCAR Champion the #36 VR Victoriaville Dodge of Carter Joey, who locked up the championship one race earlier at Riverside. As the field made it's way off of pit road, Wycombe's car began to slow as he pulled to the inside of the track, limping around and pulled onto pit road behind the pace car as the green flag was waved. Wycombe's team looked over the car and found that the left front tire was flat and quickly gave their driver four fresh new tires and sent their driver back out onto the track, four laps down, and due to the lack of cautions, Wycombe was unable to gain any spots and easily stayed on last-place for the entire length of the race.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finish the race on the same lap as the race leaders: 31st was the #99 White Motorsports Chevrolet of Joshua Rush, 30th was CTMP last-place finisher the #71 L'Equipeur Dodge of Brian Fox, 29th was the #4 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet of AJ Jones and 28th was the #36 of Carter Joey.

Crossing the start/finish line in 9th was Chris Kyle, who is the Season 2 SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series Champion, his first championship in the SCRL. Despite scoring 9 career wins, his most recent coming at Trois-Rivieres, Kyle had never competed seriously for the championship as he had been focusing on running his own league, the ISCR. During his championship season, Kyle never once scored a last-place finish, he's trailed the field 8 times in his entire SCRL career, with his worst finish of the season being a 26th at Delaware. Congratulations to Chris Kyle and the entire GC Motorsports team on their first ever championship.

SCRLASTCAR STATISTICS
*This was the first time the #47 has finished last in a Canadian Series race as well at Kawartha.

Cassie is the newest member of the Dent family to join the SCRL, after Ty and TJ Dent having been competing on and off the the last few years, with the brothers scoring their lone wins in the SCRL in one of the original series, the ONL Classic Trucks Series, with TJ winning at Chicagoland and Ty winning the series last ever race at Homestead before the series was discontinued in favor of the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series. Cassie made her Canadian Series at CTMP, finishing 11th. A finish of 21st at ICAR, 20th at CTMP Oval, 27th at Delaware, before scoring her first Top 5, a 5th at Motoplex. On race day, Cassie would roll off starting 23rd while starting last was the #11 Jiffy Car Wash / Watchfinder.ca Chevrolet of Olivia Dick but by the time the drivers had gotten to Turn 3 the #15 Bill Mathews Motors Ford of Bafode Sacko had fallen back to the final spot. Sacko would trail the field for the first two laps when two-time last-place finisher the #36 VR Victoriaville Dodge of Carter Joey took the final spot on Lap 3. Joey would be in last for two laps as well when the #69 Lake Excavating / EMCO Waterworks Dodge of Ty Dent fell back into the final spot on Lap 5.

Dent would remain in the final spot for the next seven laps before he finally was able to rebound and knocked Joey back into the final spot. Joey would trail the field once again for six laps when he knocked Ty back into the final spot on Lap 20. Ty would remain in the final spot for the next three laps until he knocked his sister in law into the final spot on Lap 24. As hard as she tried, Cassie was unable to gain in spots over the last six laps, almost being lapped by the race leader Chakat Whitelion, who would scored hir historic 27th career win, which ties hir with Truttle for the most wins in league history.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finish the race on the same lap as the race leaders: 26th was the #60 Mopar / Exide / Mobil 1 Dodge of Samet Ozkan, 25th was the #69 of Ty Dent, 24th was the #36 of Carter Joey and 28th was the #15 of Bafode Sacko.

Entering the last race of the season at Kawartha, the battle for the SCRLASTCAR Championship is officially over as Carter Joey has two last-place finishes and even if Mitchell Collins, Nick Kennedy, Brian Fox, Sylas Nixey, Grayson Acevedo, Cassie Dent, Leroy Jones, Eli Bright or Riley Spurlytube finished last, they would lose the tie-breaker as Joey has 5 Bottom Five finishes and 7 Bottom Ten finishes, with Collins having the closest, 3 Bottom Five and 5 Bottom Ten, officially knocking him and every other driver out of the championship. So officially your Season 2 SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series SCRLASTCAR Driver's Champion is Carter Joey.

Throwback CUP: Daniel Bouchard gets first last place-finish in the cup series in caution free race at Hamburg

Daniel Bouchard picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Strictly Stock Series career at the Hamburg Speedway when his #1 unsponsored Oldsmobile completed all 25 laps under power.

The finish came in his 4th start. At the time the SCRL announced it would be running it's biggest series ever, Bouchard was just one of many drivers trying to have a good season. Having yet to finish visit victory lane, Bouchard signed up to be a part of the thirty eight car field. In his series debut, Bouchard finished 26th at Charlotte, 39th at Beach & Road Course and 38th at Hillsborough.

The entry list for the Hamburg race was a twenty three car field, as earlier in the day, the other 21 drivers competed in a race at the Langhorne Speedway, a tradition that NASCAR had used in their early days of running two races a day.

On race day, Bouchard would roll off starting in the 17th spot while the #96 Oldsmobile of Truttle would roll off in the last spot. Another caution free raced allowed for great battles on the track, as Bouchard struggled with his car as it appeared to lack power right off the start and by the end of the race, Bouchard had taken last, eighteen seconds behind the race leaders.

Sylas Nixey picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in the Season 2 Wahta Springs 300 at the Barrie Speedway when his #23 Tim Hortons Dodge fell out with engine problems after completing 3 of the 30 laps.

Sylas had big shoes to fill as he made his debut at CTMP, finishing a respectable 5th. In the very next round at ICAR, Sylas started 2nd, passing Olivia Dick in Turn 1, and would go on to lead every single lap for his first career win in just his second start. Sylas would struggle the next two rounds, finishing 13th at both CTMP Oval and Delaware, before rebounding with a 6th at Motoplex. A 23rd at Edmonton, a 26th at Saskatoon, 20th at Trois-Rivieres and 14th at Montreal in the last round as the series returned to the short track at Barrie.

The entry list for the Barrie race was bumped back down to 32 cars as Oreius Centaur, who finished second at Montreal, officially retired from the series. Oreius retired after competing in 8 races, where he had 1 career win, at Exhibition Place in Season 1, and having 2 Top 5's, 4 Top 10's and having led 15 laps in the series.

On race day, Nixey would roll off starting 31st while starting last was the #35 Whitemud Mech. / EMCO Dodge of Joe Jefferson, but just as the field took the green flag, Sylas began to slow in Turn 1, pulling down on the apron and onto pit road to his crew. The team looked under the hood and found that the engine was sour, but to make sure they scored points, the team sent their driver back out onto the track as he would limp around the track during the four cautions flags, completing 3 laps, before pulling behind the wall for good on Lap 20, the only driver out of the race.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finish the race on the same lap as the race leaders: 31st was the #10 Affichage.ca Dodge of Sammy Sabre Jr., 30th was Motoplex last-place finisher the #18 Dr. Tint / FRS Dodge of Nick Kennedy and 28th was the #15 Bill Mathews Motors Ford of Bafode Sacko.

CANADA: Early crash at Montreal gives Leroy Jones second last-place finish of career

Leroy Jones picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in the Season 2 NAPA Autopro 100 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve when his #6 West World Motorsports Chevrolet was involved in a single-car crash after 9 of the 13 laps.

The finish, which came in his 9th career start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series, it's the 1st for car #6 and the 13th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #6 and the 210th from a crash.

Entering Season 2 of the Canadian Series, Jones had competed in only a few SCRL series but had already proven himself to be one of the fastest up and coming superstars, having picked up two career wins along the way to winning his first career SCRL Championship by winning the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 Championship by two points over David Dryburgh. Entering Season 2 of the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series, Jones has three wins in total and would be making his first ever start at CTMP, having not been around for the Pre-Season or Season 1 events. In his series debut, Jones finished 6th at CTMP, 16th at ICAR, 29th at CTMP Oval, 7th at Delaware, a runner up to Chakat Whitelion at Motoplex and an 11th in the last round at Edmonton.

The entry list for the Montreal race was bumped up to 33 cars as Oreius Centaur would be making his final career start in the series, driving the #51 car owned by Murray Haukaas and sponsored by Prairie Dodge Dealers / Sikkens having picked up one career win, winning at Exhibition Place in Season 1.

Sammy Sabre Jr. stalls at the start.
On race day, Jones would roll off starting 31st while starting last was the #7 National Exhaust Dodge of Trey Wright but just as the field was rolling off, for the second time in three races, the #10 Affichage.ca Dodge of Sammy Sabre Jr. would stall on the start and would be towed back to the pits as the field took the green flag. By the time the field had made it to Turn 10, Sabre's team had figured out the problem, a flat tire, just like what had happened at Edmonton, as Sabre Jr. was able to pull out in front of the leaders, being scored as the last driver on the lead lap. A scoring error however had placed Sabre into the race lead and was scored as the leader when the lone caution of the day would quickly end the battle for last.

While running in 31st, Jones entered the last chicane, known as the Wall of Champions, too hot and drove over it trying to hit the brakes but slid too much and hit the wall just inches after the tire barrier ended, crumbling the right side of his car as it came to a stop in Turn 14, bringing out the lone caution of the day, and while Jones would be uninjured, his car was destroyed and his day done after competing only two laps.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finish the race on the same lap as the race leaders: 32nd was the #10 of Sammy Sabre Jr., 31st was the #15 Bill Mathews Motors Ford of Bafode Sacko, 30th was Saskatoon last-place finisher the #21 A&W / Bower & Wilkins Dodge of Mitchell Collins and 29th was the #02 Leland / BDI / PartSource Ford of Jay Jefferson.
