Throwback CANADA: Max Anderson hard crash gives him first series last-place finish at Mosport Oval

Max Anderson picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in the Season 1 Dickies 200 at the Mosport Speedway when his #3 Snap-on Tools / Vortex Brake Pads Dodge was involved in a multi-car crash after 8 of the 22 laps.

The finish came in his 2nd career series start. By this point, the SCRL had gone through both a creative and rebranding change as it had been renamed from the ONL(Oreius Nascar League) to the SCRL(Stock Car Racing League) as well as the title sponsor switching to Tim Hortons, with the new name of the series being the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series. With the new league name, as well as a new title sponsor, the Canadian series filled out entries rather quickly as a full field of 33 drivers were on hand for the first official race of the new series.

On race day, Anderson would roll off the field starting 32nd while the #44 SMS Equipment / Komatsu Ford of Caiden Irne would trail the field when the green flag flew. A early caution kept Irene in last through the first caution before the #04 Group Bellemare / GP3R Dodge of Luke Rainey lost a lap due to damage he had gotten. Interestingly, Rainey was driving the same car that Devin Olasin had driven in the Pre-Season 1 event at the Mosport road course to it's first last-place finish in series history. Rainey would keep last between Laps 6 and 7 when chaos broke out on the Frontstretch.

The #48 Mid West Combustion of Nitahbk would go wide in Turn 4, coming back down the track into the path of the #9 Rheem / Exide Dodge of Jay Jefferson, who would hit the inside wall before coming back across the track in front of the #47 Maskimo / Somavrac Dodge of Riley Spurlytube as a ten car wreck would break out. Anderson at this point had moved to the high side of the track and was trying to get by, but ran into the back of the #97 Vannini Motorsports Ford of Evan Rudd, damaging the radiator and giving Anderson the last spot.

Despite being in the same wreck first, Spurlytube was scored above Anderson, having completed the same amount of laps. The aforementioned #97 of Evan Rudd was scored 31st, having completed one more lap. The remaining Bottom Five was filled by drivers who also got damage in the same wreck, but was able to limp around for one extra lap; 30th went to the #11 Fuel Doctor Platinum / Canadian Tire Dodge of Alexander Rowe and 29th went to the #8 Farmers Feed Families Dodge of AJ Jones.

Max Anderson would find success in other SCRL sanctioned series, scoring 3 career wins overall, all in three different series. Anderson hasn't competed in a SCRL race in several months, but is known to pop up now and then for the bigger series.
