CANADA: Carter Joey becomes third driver in a row to suffer tire problems at Delaware

Carter Joey picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in the Season 2 EMCO 200 at the Delaware Speedway when his #36 VR Victoriaville Dodge completed 29 of the 30 laps under power.

The finish came in his 4th career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series, it's the 1st for car #36 and the 6th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 1st for the #36 and the 156th for running at the finish.

Joey has competed in the SCRL for several series now, and despite scoring one career win at Caraway in then SCRL Snap-On Tools Southern Whelen Series, Joey hasn't yet made much of a mark in the league. Joey hadn't competed in Season 1 so his first trips to the tracks were when the green flag dropped; Joey struggled in the first two races with 29th at CTMP and a 22nd at ICAR in the next round before the series raced at their first short track, the Canadian Tire Mosport Park Oval, where starting 3rd, he was able to remain in the top 5 all day, and when the race was extended two laps by way of the Green, White, Checkered rule, Joey was able to pounce and finished a runner up finish in just his 3rd start.

On race day, Joey would roll off the field starting 10th while starting last was the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare Dodge of Eddie Wycombe, a spot that Wycombe would hold for the first lap before he knocked the #94 Carquest Canada Dodge of Rocco Twyman into the final spot. Twyman's stay in the final spot would last one lap, as he knocked the #4 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet of AJ Jones to last on the 3rd lap, just like with Twyman, Jones's stay in last was only one lap, when he knocked the #89 Keltic Ford / Nova Construction Ford of Ryan Rush into the final spot, and despite a early caution, Rush remained in the final spot for the first nineteen laps when for the third race in a row, tire problems quickly brought the last-place battle to an end.

Joey had fallen back a spot and was running in the 11th spot when coming off Turn 4, Joey quickly turned to the inside of the track, slowing down and stalling on the frontstretch just past the start/finish line, bringing out the second and final caution of the day. Joey's car was towed back to pit road where it was found he had a flat left rear tire, his team quickly gave him four fresh tires and sent their driver back out. Joey was unable to gain any spots over the last nine laps and finished in the final spot in his 4th start.

Finishing 31st was the #89 of Ryan Rush, the only other driver to not finish on the lead lap, as he also suffered tire problems with three laps to go, but was able to get out on track before Joey was able to pass him.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 30th was the #47 of Eddie Wycombe, 29th was the #5 EMCO-Kohler / Rheem Dodge of Chakat Whitelion and 28th the #94 of Rocco Twyman.
