Euro Elite 1: Jeff Bright's Lap 3 crash at Hockenheimring moves him up to 7th on the all time last-place record list

Jeff Bright picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 career in Round 5 at Hockenheimring when his #1 Port Cirt Race Cars Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after 3 of the 9 laps.

The finish came in his 5th career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1, it's the 1st for car #1 and the 2nd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 11th for the #1 and the 192nd from a crash.

Jeff Bright is a member of the Bright Family, who has competed in the SCRL for several years, to which the family has found success, while as of the posting of this blog none have won a championship, collectively they have nine career wins, with Eli scoring seven and Jeff scoring two, with his first coming in the SCRL V8 Supercar Series at the Hidden Valley Raceway, and then backing up his road course skills, Bright's second and most recent visit to victory lane was in the SCRL Formula E Series were he won at the very same Hockenheimring track. With his past success on road courses, Bright was looking forward to this brand new series. However his season started off poorly as he finished 15th at Monza, but in the next event he finished 4th, before finishing a series worst of 16th at Circuit de Spa while in the last round he finished 9th at Estroil.

On race day, Bright would roll off starting in the 23rd spot while the #51 Bobcat of Buffalo Dodge of Toby Fox rolled off the grid in the final spot, a spot he would for only three turns as chaos broke out much like in the Euro Elite 2 race, the #58 Tire Barn Ford of Mark Owens spun out in the esses, but by the end of the first lap the #31 Blackwells Auto Chevrolet of Marcus Saatchi had fallen back to last and would remain there through the caution laps. When the green came back out, it didn't take long for chaos to again come out as Bright was running behind the #58 of Mark Owens entering Turn 3 as the field stacked up, Bright was unable to slow down, running into the back of Owens, severely damaging the radiator. Bright was able to limp back to pit road and then into the garage, the car listed as "out" by lap 5, at which point he had already taken last the second he had pulled into the garage.

The remaining Bottom Five also became victims of crash damage; 23rd was the aforementioned #58 of Mark Owens, who was barely able to make it one more lap before pulling off, 22nd was Estoril last-place finisher the #65 Bobcat of Buffalo / Husky Dodge of Floyd Wilson, he himself damaged but made it to Lap 5 pulling off just before the restart, 21st was the #77 NAPA / Mohawk Dodge of Diego Yepez taken out in a crash just after the Green, White, Checkered and finishing 20th was Monza last-place finisher the #88 MSTRC Chevrolet of Said Ismail, who crashed hard in the esses on the final lap.
