Connor Hurley picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series career on Wednesday's DAPCO 200 at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway when his #24 Budweiser Ford fell out with engine problems without completing any of the 20 laps.
The finish occurred in his 24th career series start. In the SCRL Busch Series, it's the 1st for car #24 and the 1st for reason by engine. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for Car #24 and 30th for reason by engine.
Connor Hurley is one of many drivers trying to make a name for themselves, with Hurley having yet to visit victory lane despite competing for several series. Hurley made his busch series debut at Daytona, finishing 29th, a finish of 3rd at the previous Greenville-Pickens event has been his best finish in 23 previous starts as the series returned to Greenville-Pickens for what would be the second and final time in the busch series history.
On race day, Hurley was going to roll off the starting grid in 7th while starting last was spring South Boston last-place finisher the #21 Chattanooga Chew Pontiac of Christian Vargas. As the field rolled off pit road, Hurley's car remained in his pit stall as the crew looked under the hood and found that the engine's problem was terminal as the car was pushed behind the wall and listed as "out" by the end of the third lap.
Finishing 41st was the #11 J.W. Hunt Produce Pontiac of Al Lagasee, who brought out the lone caution when he stalled in Turn 1 when his valve broke. 40th was the #7 Mello Yello Oldsmobile of Matt Hamill, who suffered header problems in the remaining laps, falling out in the final three laps.
39th was Season 1 Champion and Summer South Boston last-place finisher the #28 Skoal Bandit Pontiac of Jack Lagasse, who was one lap down. Rounding out the Bottom Five in 38th was the #95 Metro Pontiac of Sebastian Torres who finished on the same lap as race winner Sammy Sabre Jr.
