BUSCH: Chakat Whitelion edges Patrick Smith for last-place battle at Caraway

Chakat Whitelion picked up the 2nd last place finish of hir SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series career on Sunday's Goody's 200 at the Caraway Speedway when hir #5 unsponsored Pontiac was involved in a multi-car accident without completing any of the 20 laps.

The finish occurred in hir 47th career series start, was hir first on the circuit since April 3, 2018 at Greenville-Pickens, 10 races ago. In the SCRL Busch Series, it's the 2nd for car #5 and the 20th for crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 12th for Car #5 and 180th for crash.

Whitelion is one of the most successful drivers in the first year history of the SCRL having won four championships and 17 career wins but none in the busch series, however after shi got hir first last place finish at Greenville-Pickens, in the very next race, Whitelion picked up hir first win at Langley followed up by hir second seven rounds later at South Boston as shi has been battling Season 1 Champion Jack Lagasee all season long for the championship battle as the series entered North Carolina for the third and final race at the Caraway Speedway.

On race day, Whitelion would roll off the field in 30th while starting last was the #7 Mello Yello Oldsmobile of Matt Hamill as drivers raced got the green flag, drivers went wide into Turns 1 and 2 as a wreck would break out as Whitelion would run into the back of the #22 A.G. Dillard Pontiac of Danyal Gitirokh while behind Whitelion, North Wilkesboro last-place finisher the #45 Luck Stone Pontiac Patrick Smith was unable to slow down and ran into the back of Whitelion. Both cars were destroyed and limped back to the pits as at first scoring showed the #45 in last before it was changed to the #5 of Whitelion, the spot being given to hir since shi pulled off the track earlier then Smith.

The remaining Bottom Five was filled by drivers who also struggled at Caraway; 31st went to Martinsville last-place finisher the #19 Gardiner's Auto Parts Pontiac of Nick Kennedy who was involved in the same crash, but was able to cross the start/finish line to be scored higher. 30th went to two-time last-place finisher the #63 Ashby Sheet Metal & Machine Pontiac of Maria Valera taken out in a Lap 7 crash and finishing 29th was the #4 unsponsored Pontiac of AJ Jones who finished on the same lap as Valera.
