David Byers trails field at Kawartha; Roger James wins SCRLASTCAR Championship

David Byers picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in Sunday's Pinty's 250 at the Kawartha Speedway when his #84 Equipment Express Chevrolet completed all 25 laps under power.

The finish came in his 12th career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series, it's the 2nd for car #84 and the 15th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #84 and the 328th for running at the finish.

Byers is still looking to make a name for himself in the SCRL, having yet been to victory lane, but was hoping to make a good showing in his first trip into Canada. Byers would impress in his debut, finishing 8th on the twisting and demanding road course at CTMP, and followed it up with a 9th in the next round at Delaware, before struggling for the first time to a 13th place finish at CTMP Oval. A 28th at ICAR would be followed with a 10th at Motoplex, before Byers would score his first career win in just his 6th career start at Auto Clearing. A 10th at St. Eustache would be followed by a 20th at Trois-Rivieres, 7th at Riverside, 15th at CTMP before finishing 19th in the last round at Barrie.

The entry list for the eighth time this season would be 20 as only the full time drivers would be competing as the part-time drivers are done after competing at CTMP two races ago.

In qualifying, Defending Series Champion Chris Kyle would win his first career series pole, posting a time of 19.041 seconds. Byers would struggle around the 0.375 mile short track, posting a time of 19.405 seconds, which placed him 18th on the starting lineup. Starting last in the race was the #7 National Exhaust / Rama Smoke Shop Dodge of Killian Breen, who posted the slowest time of 19.449, 0.408 seconds behind Kyle's pole winning time.

When the green flag waved, Breen's stay in last only lasted for two turns before knocking Byers back to last on the first lap. Byers would remain in last for the first two laps before knocking the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare of Cameron Hathaway into last on Lap 3. Hathaway would be in last for two laps as well before knocking the #50 Canada's Best Store Fixtures / Espar Dodge of Christian Russel into last on Lap 5, a spot he would hold for only two laps before knocking Motoplex last-place finisher the #07 Archibal / AutomobileEnDirect.com Dodge of Brandon Mayhew into last on Lap 8.

Mayhew was determined to not finish last in the finale as he was in the final spot for only one lap before knocking the #88 Lucas Oil Chevrolet of Derek Greene into last on Lap 9. Greene would trail for two laps before knocking Russel back to last for the second time on Lap 11, but Russel wasn't there for long as he would pass Byers and move him back to last on Lap 14. As much as Byers tried to rebound, he was never able to gain a spot over the next eleven laps and would finish a full ten seconds behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved to end the season.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 19th was the aforementioned #50 of Christian Russel, 18th was the #16 Mercedes-Benz St. Nicolas Chevrolet of Billy Kidd, 17th was the #07 of Brandon Mayhew and 16th was the #88 of Derek Greene.

With Byers trailing the field, that meant that Roger James won the SCRLASTCAR Champion by winning the tie breaker over Zachary Fitzwater by having two more Bottom Five finishes as the two drivers had two last-place finishes enter Kawartha.

The Season 3 SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series Championship went to Ignazio Alberti, who scored a major upset. Alberti, who entered the season finale one of twelve drivers who could mathematically, finished 5th and won the championship by one point over Brian Fox, despite not winning a single race. Alberti, had no last-place finishes this season, but he did have 1 Bottom Five finish, a worst place finish of 19th at Auto Clearing.

Congratulations to Alberti and the Micks Motorsports team for having a great year.

*This was the first time the #84 has finished last in the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series at Kawartha.
*The only other time the #84 has trailed a Canadian Series race was the Season 1 Grand Prix ICAR at Circuit ICAR when Zachary Fitzwater's #84 Schick Hydro Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 6 of the 8 laps; 34 races ago.

CANADA: Zachary Fitzwater trails in caution free race at Barrie; SCRLASTCAR Battle set for Kawartha between Fitzwater and Roger James

Zachary Fitzwater picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Saturday's Hudco Electric Supply 300 at the Barrie Speedway when his #4 unsponsored Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet completed 29 of the 30 laps.

The finish, which came in his 23rd career series start, was his first on the circuit since the Pinty's Presents the Vortex 200 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when he completed all 10 laps under power; 10 races ago. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 2nd for car #4 and the 14th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 16th for the #4 and the 327th for running at the finish.

After trailing at CTMP, Fitzwater would continue to struggle by finishing 19th in the next round at Delaware before scoring his first Top 10 of the season, a 9th at CTMP Oval. A 16th at ICAR would be followed up by his first Top 5 finish, a 5th at Motoplex and followed it up with a 4th at Auto Clearing, before struggling to finish 11th in the next two races at St. Eustache and Trois-Rivieres. Fitzwater finally was able to get some good luck going his way when he started second at Riverside and assumed the lead when Christian Russel suffered engine failure, as Fitzwater would go on to lead every single lap on his way to his second series win, and 15th overall in the league. With momentum in his corner, Fitzwater traveled to the sight of his first series win and most reason last-place finish, this time finishing 3rd, his best finish on the road courses this season.

The entry list for the seventh time this season would be 20 as only the full time drivers would be competing as the part-time drivers are done after competing at CTMP in the last event.

In qualifying, Cameron Hathaway would win his second career series pole, posting a time of 14.930 seconds. Fitzwater would struggle around the 0.333 mile short track, posting a time of 15.123 seconds, which placed him 16th on the starting lineup. Starting last in the race was the #5 EMCO / Rheem / Praxair Dodge of Sebastian Torres, who posted the slowest time of 16.443, a full 1.513 seconds behind Hathaway's pole winning time after slapping the outside wall coming off Turn 2.

When the green flag waved, Torres's stay in last was brief as he knocked the #16 Mercedes-Benz St. Nicolas Chevrolet of Billy Kidd into last, as Kidd would trail for the first two laps before knocking Fitzwater into last for the first time on Lap 3. Fitzwater would trail for two laps before knocking two-time last-place finisher the #29 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Roger James into last on Lap 5, a spot he would hold for only one lap before knocking the #84 Equipment Express Chevrolet of David Byers into last on Lap 6. Byers would trail for two laps himself before knocking Fitzwater back to last on Lap 8, as Fitzwater continued to struggle, he would remain in last for the next three laps before knocking Byers back to last again on Lap 12.

By this time, with no caution flying yet, the back of the field was being caught by Hathaway, as Byers remained in the final spot on Lap 23 he became the first driver to fall a lap down. Just two laps later, as Hathaway was lapping Fitzwater, Byers was able to sneak by and dropped Fitzwater to last. As much as he tried, the four time champion was unable to get back the position over the final laps with Fitzwater and Byers as the only two drivers to not finish on the lead lap.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 18th was the aforementioned #16 of Billy Kidd, 17th was the #29 of Roger James and 16th was the #5 of Sebastian Torres.

Entering the season finale, only Roger James and Zachary Fitzwater can mathematically win the SCRLASTCAR Championship, as both drivers have two last-place finishes, only those two drivers will walk out of Kawartha with the championship. If anyone but James of Fitzwater finishes last, no matter if Fitzwater finishes in the Bottom Five and James doesn't, James will win the championship by having one more Bottom Five finish. The only way James can lose the championship is if Fitzwater finishes last at Kawartha out right, that would give Fitzwater 3 last-place finishes to James's 2.

SCRLASTCAR STATISTICS
*This was the first time the #4 has finished last in the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series at Barrie.

Late flat tire at CTMP gives Jonathan Dayne the first last-place finish of his career

Jonathan Dayne picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Friday's Pinty's Presents the Clarington 200 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when his #28 La Cite De Mirabel Inc / Plancher2000.ca Dodge fell out with tire problems after completing 9 of the 10 laps.

The finish came in his 10th career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 1st for car #28 and the 2nd for tire issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 20th for the #28 and the 13th for tire issues.

Dayne was one of several rookies making their SCRL debuts by signing up to compete in the third ever season of the SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series, choosing to drive the entire season for a full experience instead of competing part-time. Dayne would struggle in his first two starts, finishing 19th in his debut at CTMP and 18th at Delaware before finishing a career best 3rd at CTMP Oval and things were looking up for the team, but contact at Circuit ICAR with teammate Roger James would place him 30th. A 15th at Motoplex and a 14th at Auto Clearing would be followed by Dayne's second third place finish of the season at St. Eustache but the good times would be short lived as Dayne finished 18th at Trois-Rivieres before finishing 15th in the last round at Riverside.

The entry list for the fourth and final time this season would be a full 33 car field for the first time since Circuit Trois-Rivieres.

In qualifying, Chakat Lightingblaze would score hir first career series pole, posting a time of 80.217 seconds. Dayne would struggle around the 2.459 mile road course, posting a time of 80.528 seconds, which placed Dayne 18th on the starting lineup. Starting last in the race was the #8 Canada's Best Store Fixtures Dodge of Boston Jones, who posted the slowest time of 80.936, 0.719 seconds behind Lightingblaze's pole winning time.

When Friday's race started, the #02 BDI / Leland / PartSource Ford of Morton Gray, who was going to start 5th, forfeited his original starting spot and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap due to unapproved adjustments.

Nick Kennedy suffers engine failure.
When the green flag waved, Gray would quickly knock Jones back to last, who would trail for the first lap as he worked hard to try and gain a spot, unable to do so until Lap 4 when he knocked defending Series Champion the #27 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Chris Kyle into last. Kyle would remain in the final spot for only one lap as exiting 10 Turn, the #51 Prairie Dodge Dealers Dodge of Nick Kennedy pulled onto pit road, reporting of engine problems to his team. If Kennedy's team didn't get him back out on track, Kennedy would break a tie with five other drivers and would become the leading driver with the most last-place finishes in Canada. But thankfully for Kennedy, his team was able to diagnose the problem and sent their driver back out onto the track just a few seconds before the leaders lapped him. Kennedy would hope and pray for a caution, it would never come, to prevent him from finishing last, and it looked like he would trail for the third time in his series career, but the racing gods appeared to finally answer his prayer.

As the field was about to take the white flag, Dayne, who was running in 17th at the time, began to suddenly slow as he entered Turn 2, pulling off to the side to allow the other drivers to get by without a problem. Dayne reported to his crew that the right front tire had blown and would try and limp back to the pits. After several nail biting seconds to see if the race would be extended or not, Dayne was able to make it to pit road, but pulled behind the wall, failing to complete the last lap and knocking Kennedy up into 32nd.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 31st was the aforementioned #27 of Chris Kyle, 30th was the #88 Burger Barn Chevrolet of Derek Greene and 29th was the #02 of Morton Gray.

SCRLASTCAR STATISTICS
*This was the first time the #28 has finished last in the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series as well at CTMP.
*The only other time a driver has trailed due to "tire" issues was in the Season 1 Wild Wing 300 at the Barrie Speedway when Joe Jefferson's #01 Canadian Tire / MotoMaster / Sylvania Dodge fell out with tire problems after completing 1 of the 32 laps; 24 races ago.

THE BOTTOM FIVE
33) #28-Jonathan Dayne / 9 laps / tire
32) #51-Nick Kennedy / 10 laps / running

Since that time, Russel has been looking to find that magic touch again, but has come up empty, only scoring four more victories since his championship win in 2019.

Russel, who finished 4th in points in IROC VIII the last series the SCRL held, was looking to make his debut in the Canadian Series, as he would drive a full time ride for team owner John Atto. Russel made his at CTMP, a place he would struggle at and finished a disappointing 27th, a 6th place in the next round at Delaware and a 8th at CTMP Oval kept the team's momentum up as they would struggle on the season's second road course of the season, Circuit ICAR, where Russel finished 22nd. Russel would not give up as he would finish runner up to Noelle Holiday at Motoplex, 12th at Auto Clearing, finishing runner up again this time to Brandon Mayhew at St. Eustache before finally having a good run on the road course at Trois-Rivieres, finishing 4th.

When Thursday's race started, the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare of Cameron Hathaway, who was going to start 14th, forfeited his original starting spot and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap due to unapproved adjustments.

When the green flag waved, Hathaway would trail for two turns and a backstretch, when leader Russel suddenly pulled to the inside of the track and onto pit road, reporting of no fuel pressure as he pulled into his pit stall. The crew would look under the hood and over the car, finding out that there was in fact a fuel leak, as the team worked all race long to try and get their driver back out on track, but they never made it, with Russel's car sitting in the stall for the entire race, having scored completing one lap, but the officials bizarrely reporting that Russel in fact trailed due to a blown engine, as was shown in the results, despite the team and information on screen saying other wise.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 19th was the #09 Lake Excavating / Marshall's Dodge of Omar Gutierrez, 18th was the aforementioned #47 of Cameron Hathaway, 17th was the #8 Canada's Best Store Fixtures Dodge of Boston Jones and 16th was CTMP Oval last-place finisher the #52 Best Buy Pieces d'Auto Dodge of Noelle Holiday.

18) #47-Cameron Hathaway / 30 laps / running
17) #8-Boston Jones / 30 laps / running
16) #52-Noelle Holiday / 30 laps / running

CANADA: Wreck just seconds after the green flag at Trois-Rivieres gives Rhea Pemberton the first last-place finish of his SCRL career

Rhea Pemberton picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Wednesday's JuliaWine.com 100 at Circuit Trois-Rivieres when his #19 Holmar Plumbing Dodge was involved in a multi-car crash without completing any of the 10 laps.

The finish came in his 3rd career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 1st for car #19 and the 14th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #19 and the 287th from a crash.

Rhea is one of many drivers still looking to make a name for hisself in the SCRL, having competed in a few series before this, but hasn't been to victory lane yet or made his mark in the SCRL. Choosing to compete in a part-time schedule driving for team owner Reg Arsenault, Rhea would make his debut at the first race of the season at CTMP, starting 15th and finishing 16th. Rhea's next scheduled race would be three races later at the twisting and demanding Circuit ICAR, where he would start 25th and would finish a season worst 21st. With the team working with limited resources, Rhea and the team would sit out the next three races, choosing to return at the 1.530 mile street course at Trois-Rivieres.

The entry list for the third time this season would be a full 33 car field for the first time since CTMP, after Blaise Zebrataur and Chakat Lightingblaze pulled out of the ICAR event at the last moment.

In qualifying, four time SCRL Champion Sebastian Torres scored his first career series pole, posting a time of 67.621 seconds. Rhea would struggle in qualifying, posting a time of 68.206, 0.585 seconds off Torres's time, it would place Rhea 30th on the grid. Starting last in the race was the #02 Leland / BDI / Gaunt Collision Ford of Morton Gray, who posted the slowest time of 68.573, 0.952 seconds behind Torres's pole winning time.

When Wednesday's race started, the #16 Mercedes-Benz St. Nicolas Chevrolet of Billy Kidd, who was going to start 24th, and defending race winner and Series Champion the #27 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Chris Kyle, who was going to start 19th, both forfeited their original starting spots and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap due to unapproved adjustments.

When the green flag waved, the field would make their way easily through Turn 6 without a problem, but as they entered Turn 7, the #88 Lucas Oil Chevrolet of Derek Greene was spun out by the #84 Equipment Express Chevrolet of David Byers, sending both cars into the concrete wall before being sent out back in front of the pack, as the #39 Motos Illimitees / DLGL / Kawasaki Dodge of Al Lagasee had no where to go and slammed into Greene's car, while the #19 of Rhea had nowhere to go and slammed into the back of Lagasse's car, completely destroying his car and bringing out the race's first caution. Rhea would limp back to pit road, but made that sharp left hand turn into the garage, the team looked over the car but the damage was too severe, and Rhea's car would be listed as "out" by Lap 3.

Finishing 32nd was the #22 Canadian Tire / Sylvania Dodge of Owen Carvin who, while running in 11th, would be involved in a single car crash at Porte Duplessis, the narrow concrete gateway of the grounds at turn 3, bringing out the race's second and final caution on Lap 4.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 31st was the aforementioned #39 of Al Lagasee, 30th was the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare of Cameron Hathaway and 29th was the #03 Snap-On Tools / Circuit ICAR Dodge of Chase Abbott.

CANADA: Defending Champion Chris Kyle trails for the first time in his Canadian Series career at St. Eustache

Chris Kyle picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Tuesday's National 250 Presented by Public Mobile at the Autodrome St. Eustache when his #27 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge completed all 25 laps under power.

The finish came in his 33rd career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 1st for car #27 and the 13th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 7th for the #27 and the 326th for running at the finish.

Entering Season 3, Kyle has already established himself as a future SCRL Hall of Famer, having been one of the longest active drivers in league history, picked up 11 career wins over various series, and finally became a Champion in Season 2 of this series, and was looking to come back and win it for a second time, driving for Dave Jacombs. Kyle's season got off to a great start, finishing runner up to Noelle Holiday at CTMP before finishing a lackluster 11th at Delaware. A 6th at CTMP Oval would be followed by a 10th at ICAR, 13th at Motoplex before finishing 3rd in the last round at Auto Clearing.

The entry list for the fifth time this season would be 20 as only the full time drivers would be competing with the part-time drivers not scheduled to return until Trois-Rivieres in the next event.

In qualifying, rookie Brandon Mayhew scored his first career pole, posting a time of 18.490 seconds. Kyle would struggle in qualifying around the 0.400 mile short track, posting a time of 18.823, 0.333 seconds off Mayhew's time, it would place Kyle 12th on the grid. Starting last in the race was the #09 Lake Excavating / EMCO Waterworks Dodge of Omar Gutierrez, who posted the slowest time of 19.012, 0.522 seconds behind Mayhew's pole winning time.

For the first time since CTMP, no driver would drop to the rear of the field when the green flag waved as Gutierrez Fox would trail the field for the first two laps before knocking two time last-place finisher the #29 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Roger James into last on Lap 3. James would trail for two laps as well before he would pass and knocked the #66 Quaker State Dodge of Dilan Ebrahimian into last on Lap 5. Ebrahimian was determined to not finish last and just two laps later he knocked the #51 Prairie Dodge Dealers Dodge of Nick Kennedy into the final spot on Lap 7. Kennedy would trail for three laps before Kyle, who was trapped on the outside line, had fallen back to last on Lap 10. Broken Camshaft at Auto Clearing gives Roger James his second last-place finish in the last three races

Roger James picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Monday's Velocity Prairie Thunder at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway when his #29 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge fell out with camshaft problems after completing 19 of the 30 laps.

The finish, which came in his 6th career series start, was his first on the circuit since the Jiffy Lube 100 Presented by Snap-On at Circuit ICAR where he completed all 6 laps under power; 2 races ago. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 2nd for car #29 and the 2nd for camshaft issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #29 and the 40th for gearbox issues.

After trailing the field for the first time in not only his Canadian Series career but SCRL career, James was determined to find redemption in the next round at Motoplex, but he would once again struggle on the short tracks, starting 19th and finishing 14th.

The entry list for the fourth time this season would be 20 as only the full time drivers would be competing with the part-time drivers not scheduled to return until Trois-Rivieres in two races.

In qualifying, rookie Boston Jones scored his first career pole, posting a time of 15.041 seconds. James would struggle in qualifying around the 0.333 mile short track, posting a time of 15.224, 0.183 seconds off Jones's time, it would place James 14th on the grid. Starting last in the race was CTMP Oval last-place finisher the #52 Best Buy Pieces d'Auto Dodge of Noelle Holiday, who posted the slowest time of 15.298, 0.257 seconds behind Jones's pole winning time.

When Sunday's race started, one driver would forfeit his original starting spot and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap, that being the #14 Steel-Craft Door Products Chevrolet of Brian Fox, who had qualified 13th, due to unapproved adjustments.

When the green flag waved, Fox would trail the field for the first lap but it didn't take long for the battle for last to heat up as coming out of Turn 4, the #5 EMCO / Rheem Dodge of Sebastian Torres, who was running in the 18th spot, was spun out after making contact with the #7 National Exhaust / Diamond Material Handling Dodge of Killian Breen, bringing out the first caution of the day. Torres would trail in the final spot as the field went back racing and held that spot until Lap 8 when the #67 LubeSource / Thorsons EVT Chevrolet of Samet Ozkan was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop for a flat tire. Ozkan would remain in the final spot, remaining on the tail end of the lead lap for the next eleven laps until the battle for last came to an end.

At this point in the race, James had worked his way up inside the Top 10 and was running 9th when exiting off Turn 4, his car began to smoke. James would pull to the inside of the track and limped across the start/finish line to compete Lap 19 before stalling just before Turn 1, bringing out the race's second and final caution. James's car would be towed to the garage, taking over the final spot on Lap 20 and would be listed as "out" by Lap 23, the camshaft broken in his car.

Finishing 19th was the #9 Fielding Estate Winery Ford of Ignazio Alberti, who had also pitted earlier in the race with Ozkan, would actually lose a lap during the final laps and was the only other driver to not finish on the lead lap.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 18th was the aforementioned #14 of Brian Fox, 17th was the #52 of Noelle Holiday and 16th was the #51 Prairie Dodge Dealers Dodge of Nick Kennedy.

CANADA: Broken gearbox with two laps to go gives Brandon Mayhew the first last-place finish of his career at Motoplex

Brandon Mayhew picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Sunday's A&W Cruisin' the Dub 300 at the Motoplex Speedway & Event Park when his #07 Archibal / AutomobileEnDirect.com Dodge fell out with gearbox problems after completing 28 of the 30 laps.

The finish came in his 4th career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 2nd for car #07 and the 3rd for gearbox issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #07 and the 15th for gearbox issues.

Brandon, a rookie in the SCRL, is the brother to Randy Mayhew, who picked up 3 career wins in the SCRL Grand National Series, while Brandon himself has yet visited the hollowed grounds of victory lane and was looking to change that by competing for the first time in Canada, signing up to drive the full twelve race schedule for team owner Normand Roy. In his debut, Brandon finished a disappointing 24th at CTMP, before finishing 15th at Delaware, 15th at CTMP Oval before finishing 18th on the twisting road course at Circuit ICAR.

The entry list for the third time this season would be 20 as only the full time drivers would be competing with the part-time drivers not scheduled to return until Trois-Rivieres.

In qualifying, rookie Billy Kidd scored his first career pole, posting a time of 19.487 seconds. Brandon would impress in qualifying around the half mile track, posting a time of 19.651, 0.164 seconds off Kidd's time, it would place Brandon 7th on the grid, the second highest starting position all season, after starting 4th at Delaware. Starting last in the race was Circuit ICAR last-place finisher the #29 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Roger James, who posted the slowest time of 20.066, 0.579 seconds behind Fox's pole winning time.

When Sunday's race started, for the second race in a row, the #28 Cabinets by Hayley Dodge of Jonathan Dayne would forfeit his original 18th starting spot and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap due to unapproved adjustments.

When the green flag waved, Dayne would trail for the first lap around the half mile track before knocking the #84 Equipment Express Chevrolet of David Byers into last on Lap 2, a position he would hold for two laps before knocking the #9 Fielding Estate Winery Ford of Ignazio Alberti, a position he would hold for two laps as well before knocking the #14 Steel-Craft Door Products Chevrolet of Brian Fox fell back to last for the first time this season on Lap 7.
Fox would remain in last until lap 10 when Delaware winner the #66 Quaker State Dodge of Dilan Ebrahimian fell back to last, a spot he would hold for two laps as well before he knocked the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare of Cameron Hathaway into last on Lap 12.

Hathaway would trail for three laps before knocking the #51 Prairie Dodge Dealers Dodge of Nick Kennedy into last on Lap 15. Kennedy would struggle around the half mile track over the next several laps, remaining in last for eight laps before knocking Hathaway into last again on Lap 23. Again determined to not trail for the first time in his career, Hathaway was in last for only two laps before knocking Kennedy back to last on Lap 25 before Kennedy fought back and put Hathaway into last on Lap 26 and it appeared Hathaway was going to finish last for the first time it seemed and was running in last on Lap 27 when the battle came to an end.

Brandon at this point had worked his way up to 4th and was running with the three leaders and appeared to be be on his way to his first ever Top 5 finish, but as the field came off Turn 2, Brandon's car started to smoke as he pulled to the inside of the track as he pulled onto pit road and pulled behind the wall, victim of a broken gearbox, as his car would be listed as "out" as the field began their final lap.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 29th was the aforementioned #47 of Cameron Hathaway, 18th was the #51 of Nick Kennedy, 17th was the #14 of Brian Fox and 16th was the #66 of Dilan Ebrahimian.

When Saturday's race started, the #28 VIP Poker Chevrolet of Jonathan Dayne and James would both forfeit their original starting spots and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap due to unapproved adjustments.

When the green flag waved, James would make a move in Turn 1 and knocked Dayne back to the final position, a spot Dayne would remain in for the first lap and then the second. Dayne would then gain a run on James into Turn 1 and also passed Owen Carvin for 29th and then was making a move for 27th on the #84 Equipment Express Chevrolet of David Byers as Dayne would make contact with the inside wall before coming across the track and into the path of James, sending both cars for a spin. Noelle Holiday picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in the Friday's Clarington 200 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Oval when his #52 Best Buy Pieces d'Auto Dodge completed all 20 laps under power.

CANADA: Caution free race at CTMP gives Zachary Fitzwater his 10th overall last-place finish in career; now tied for 5th all time

Zachary Fitzwater picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in the Season 3 Pinty's Presents the Vortex 200 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when his #4 unsponsored Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet completed all 10 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 13th career series start, was his first on the circuit since the Season 1 Grand Prix ICAR at Circuit ICAR when his #84 Schick Hydro Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after 4 of the 6 laps, 23 races ago.
In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 1st for car #4 and the 9th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 15th for the #4 and the 322nd for running at the finish.

Fitzwater is a first ballot Hall of Famer when it comes time when he hangs up his goggles and helmet, 14 career wins and four career championships, second only to Chakat Whitelion. But the Candian Series hasn't exactly been a overly successful series for Fitzwater, while he was the first driver to win at CTMP when the series was rebranded, Fitzwater has only 2 Top 5's, 4 Top 10's and 22 laps led in the twelve previous races he competed in Season 1, a year in which he finished 18th in points. After choosing to not compete in the second season, Fitzwater has decided to come back and drive for the same team, but changing the number to fit his amount of titles he now has, with hopes of a possible fifth championship.

The field for the third ever season would be the biggest yet at thirty three drivers signed up to compete in a twelve race schedule, the first in over nine hundred days in which the SCRL last competed in Canada. Of the 33 drivers, 24 would be rookies in the Canadian Series, with half of those making their entire league debut.

In qualifying, Weller Hills would make a huge impact, scoring his first career pole, posting a time of 82.545 seconds. Fitzwater would struggle around the 2.459 mile road course, posting a time of 82.972, while 0.427 seconds off Hills's time, it would place Fitzwater 24th on the grid. Starting last in the race was the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare of Cameron Hathaway, who posted a time of 83.526, 0.981 seconds behind Hills's pole winning time.

When the race started, Hathaway would struggle for the first few laps around the track as it was his first time he'd ever raced at it in the SCRL, but after trailing for three laps he knocked the #02 Leland / BDI / Dickies Ford of Morton Gray into the final spot on Lap 4. Gray, who was making his first ever SCRL start, was also struggling to find any grip around the ten turn road course, as he would remain in the final position for four laps before he would pass Fitzwater, who was also finding it hard to pass any cars. With Fitzwater back to last, he would struggle over the remaining laps to gain any momentum, and would finish almost a full twenty seconds behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 32nd was the #67 LubeSource / Thorsons EVT Chevrolet of Samet Ozkan, 31st was the aforementioned #02 of Morton Gray, 30th was the #29 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Roger James and 29th was the #47 of Cameron Hathaway.
