CANADA: Broken gearbox with two laps to go gives Brandon Mayhew the first last-place finish of his career at Motoplex

Brandon Mayhew picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series career in Sunday's A&W Cruisin' the Dub 300 at the Motoplex Speedway & Event Park when his #07 Archibal / AutomobileEnDirect.com Dodge fell out with gearbox problems after completing 28 of the 30 laps.

The finish came in his 4th career series start. In the SCRL Tim Hortons Candian Series, it's the 2nd for car #07 and the 3rd for gearbox issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #07 and the 15th for gearbox issues.

Brandon, a rookie in the SCRL, is the brother to Randy Mayhew, who picked up 3 career wins in the SCRL Grand National Series, while Brandon himself has yet visited the hollowed grounds of victory lane and was looking to change that by competing for the first time in Canada, signing up to drive the full twelve race schedule for team owner Normand Roy. In his debut, Brandon finished a disappointing 24th at CTMP, before finishing 15th at Delaware, 15th at CTMP Oval before finishing 18th on the twisting road course at Circuit ICAR.

The entry list for the third time this season would be 20 as only the full time drivers would be competing with the part-time drivers not scheduled to return until Trois-Rivieres.

In qualifying, rookie Billy Kidd scored his first career pole, posting a time of 19.487 seconds. Brandon would impress in qualifying around the half mile track, posting a time of 19.651, 0.164 seconds off Kidd's time, it would place Brandon 7th on the grid, the second highest starting position all season, after starting 4th at Delaware. Starting last in the race was Circuit ICAR last-place finisher the #29 La Cite De Mirabel Inc. Dodge of Roger James, who posted the slowest time of 20.066, 0.579 seconds behind Fox's pole winning time.

When Sunday's race started, for the second race in a row, the #28 Cabinets by Hayley Dodge of Jonathan Dayne would forfeit his original 18th starting spot and pulled to the rear of the field on the pace lap due to unapproved adjustments.

When the green flag waved, Dayne would trail for the first lap around the half mile track before knocking the #84 Equipment Express Chevrolet of David Byers into last on Lap 2, a position he would hold for two laps before knocking the #9 Fielding Estate Winery Ford of Ignazio Alberti, a position he would hold for two laps as well before knocking the #14 Steel-Craft Door Products Chevrolet of Brian Fox fell back to last for the first time this season on Lap 7.
Fox would remain in last until lap 10 when Delaware winner the #66 Quaker State Dodge of Dilan Ebrahimian fell back to last, a spot he would hold for two laps as well before he knocked the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Bellemare of Cameron Hathaway into last on Lap 12.

Hathaway would trail for three laps before knocking the #51 Prairie Dodge Dealers Dodge of Nick Kennedy into last on Lap 15. Kennedy would struggle around the half mile track over the next several laps, remaining in last for eight laps before knocking Hathaway into last again on Lap 23. Again determined to not trail for the first time in his career, Hathaway was in last for only two laps before knocking Kennedy back to last on Lap 25 before Kennedy fought back and put Hathaway into last on Lap 26 and it appeared Hathaway was going to finish last for the first time it seemed and was running in last on Lap 27 when the battle came to an end.

Brandon at this point had worked his way up to 4th and was running with the three leaders and appeared to be be on his way to his first ever Top 5 finish, but as the field came off Turn 2, Brandon's car started to smoke as he pulled to the inside of the track as he pulled onto pit road and pulled behind the wall, victim of a broken gearbox, as his car would be listed as "out" as the field began their final lap.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 29th was the aforementioned #47 of Cameron Hathaway, 18th was the #51 of Nick Kennedy, 17th was the #14 of Brian Fox and 16th was the #66 of Dilan Ebrahimian.
