TRUCKS: Bob Jenkins's day ends before it has a chance to start

Bob Jenkins picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series career in Monday's Tempus Resorts 300K at the Pikes Peak International Raceway when his #77 Doran Racing Enterprises Chevrolet fell out with engine issues without completing any of the 22 laps.

The finish occurred in his 13th career series start. In the Truck Series, it's the 4th for the #77 and the 12th for engine issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 12th for the #77 and 55th for engine issues.

Jenkins was one of ten drivers who would be making not only their truck series debuts in Season 4, but Jenkins was also making his first ever SCRL sanctioned start, with Jenkins signing on to drive for the same team that won the overall championship in Season 2 with Jonathan Raines; Doran Racing. Jenkins would impress in his first career start by finishing 11th in the season's first event at Walt Disney World followed by a 9th place at Homestead. In just his third career start, Jenkins would once again impress by qualifying 3rd and would 13 of the event's first 16 laps before he blew up while leading, finishing a disappointing 35th. A 7th at Portland, 22nd at Evergreen, a career best 3rd at I-70, a 4th at Watkins Glen, 24th at Texas, 27th at Bristol, 7th at Milwaukee Mile, 22nd at Nazareth before finishing 20th in the last round at Fontana.

The entry list for the ninth time this season would be 37 trucks. Darren Allen would collect his second career pole of his career in qualifying, posting a time of 26.741 seconds, while Jenkins would struggle, posting a time of 26.911, while only 0.170 seconds behind Allen's pole winning time, it placed him all the way back in the 20th position. Posting the slowest time during qualifying was the #15 Acxiom Ford of Colby Harris, who posted a time of 27.099, a time that was 0.358 seconds behind Allen's pole time. However during qualifying, the #7 Tempus Resorts Chevrolet of Chakat Lightingblaze, who had posted a time of 26.959 which would have placed hir 30th, spun out on hir cool down lap and crashed hard into the Turn 1 wall, forcing hir team to switch to the backup truck.

On race day, as the field began their lone pace lap, Jenkins's truck began to instantly smoke as the driver pulled over to the left out of the way of the drivers behind him and into his pit box as the team looked under the hood while the other trucks went racing. The team would discover that the cause of the smoke was terminal engine damage, and so the truck was pushed behind the wall and after a brief recheck, the team decided it wasn't worth the risk sending their driver back out, so the truck was listed as "out" by the race's third lap.

Finishing 36th was Portland last-place finisher the #35 Ortho Lawn & Garden Products Chevrolet of Chakat Flaremane who, while shi missed the first crash on Lap 3, suffered a broken header just one lap later, and after a brief trip behind the wall and to the garage, the team was forced to retire from the race, the truck being listed as "out" on the 6th lap.

The remaining Bottom Five would be filled up by the end of the next caution that came out on Lap 8: 35th was the #4 All American Museum Dodge of Daniel Bouchard who was a lap down at the time of the crash, 34th was the #26 Auto Trim Design Network Ford of Derrick Edison and 33rd was the #87 BellSouth Mobility Chevrolet of Ben Crouch.
