TRUCKS: Engine failure at Fontana gives Monika Flores her first career last-place finish

Monika Flores picked up the 1st last place finish of her SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series career in Saturday's The No Fear Challenge at the California Speedway when her #2 Team ASE Racing Ford fell out with engine issues without completing any of the 20 laps.

The finish occurred in her 12th career series start. In the Truck Series, it's the 3rd for the #2 and the 11th for engine issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #2 and 54th for engine issues.

Monika is one of the SCRL's newest fastest rising stars as she had never made a single SCRL start until the 5th annual Shaker Memorial, a race that surprisingly she would win, even though it was a non points win, Flores had impressed enough in the garage that she was offered, and agreed, to sign a one year deal for Jim Smith to drive his primary for Ultra Motorsports. Flores started off her career by finishing a decent 21st at Walt Disney World before scoring an impressive 2nd place finish in just her second career start at Homestead. A disappointing 21st place at Phoenix would once again be followed by her second runner up finish in just her fourth career start at Portland. A 12th at Evergreen, 9th at I-70, 10th at the twisting road course at Watkins Glen would be followed with a disappointing 33rd at Texas, 24th at Bristol, 25th at Milwaukee before rebounding by finishing 6th in the last round at Nazareth.

The entry list for the eighth time this season would be 37 trucks. Celious Wolf would collect his second career pole of his career in qualifying, posting a time of 39.441 seconds, while Flores would struggle, posting a time of 39.665, while only 0.224 seconds behind Wolf's pole winning time, it placed her all the way back in the 33rd position. Posting the slowest time during qualifying was I-70 last-place finisher the #43 Cummins Engines Dodge of Marcus Saatchi, who posted a time of 39.739, a time that was 0.298 seconds behind Wolf's pole time..

On race day, as the field began their lone pace lap, Monika's truck began to smoke as she quickly moved to the inside of the track to allow the others around her a chance to pass by. Flores reported to her team that the engine had shut off and she had no power, as she coasted on the apron as the field got ready to go racing. Flores would follow the pace truck down pit road as the field took the green, as Flores would pull into the garage. The team would look over the truck for the next few laps to see if they could diagnosed the problem of the truck, before finally giving up, with the truck being listed as "out" on the 5th lap, with Flores never crossing the start/finish line and being listed as engine failure on the final results.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 36th was the #22 Red Dog Ford of Riley Spurlytube, 35th was the #19 Pennzoil Ford of Chakat Raindancer, 34th was the #70 Easy Care / Town & Country Ford of Brock Beard and 33rd was the #44 Federated Auto Parts / 1-800-Collect Ford of Chase Harris.
