TRUCKS: Rookie Chakat Flaremane trails in caution free race for hir first last-place finish

Chakat Flaremane picked up the 1st last place finish of hir SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series career in Friday's Craftsman 200 Presented by NAPA Auto Parts at the Portland Speedway when hir #35 Ortho Lawn & Garden Products Chevrolet completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish occurred in his 4th career series start. In the Truck Series, it's the 2nd for truck #35 and the 20th where the truck was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #35 and 277th where the vehicle was still running.

Flaremane is new to the racing world but hir family has been a part of it for years with hir father being Blaise Zebrataur and hir mother being the all time winngest driver and all time championship winner Chakat Whitelion. After having hir older sisters such as Lightingblaze and Snowchaser would score wins themselves before Flaremane decided to try hir paw at racing, signing up to compete in hir first full time season, driving for team Charles Hardy Racing. Flaremane would miss the first event at Walt Disney World as the team was still preparing their truck for the season, with Flaremane making hir debut in the second event of the season at Homestead and would instantly find success as shi would win when the race was extended by way of a GWC(Green, White, Checkered) before finishing 5th at Phoenix in the last round.

The entry list for the series fourth and final event to be held at the Portland Speedway would be bumped back down to the usual 31 full time trucks. Celious Wolf would go down in history as becoming the last pole sitter on the track, winning the pole with a time of 20.972 seconds. Flaremane would struggle in qualifying a disappointing 27th with a time of 21.350 seconds. Posting the slowest time during qualifying was Walt Disney World last-place finisher the #3 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Chevrolet of Samet Okzan, who posted a time of 21.408 seconds, 0.436 seconds behind Wolf's pole winning time.

On race day, Ozkan would trail for only the first turn before he knocked the #50 Grainger Ford of Cameron Hathaway into last, who would trail for the first two laps around the half mile track. Hathaway would knock the #44 Federated Auto Parts Ford of Chase Harris into last on Lap 3. Harris wouldn't be long for trailing the field as he would pass the unsponsored #09 Greenfield Racing Dodge of Season 3 Champion Zachary Fitzwater, who would trail for the next three laps. On Lap 7, Fitzwater would knock the #43 Cummins Engines Dodge of Marcus Saatchi into the final spot, but the next lap Saatchi knocked Flaremane into last for the first time.

Flaremane would remain in last for the next eight laps, till lap 16 when shi passed Phoenix last-place finisher the #18 Dana Corporation Dodge of Carter Joey into last. Joey, who didn't want to trail for the second race, knocked Flaremane back to last two laps later on Lap 18. Flaremane however had some fight left in hir as shi passed Joey again on the last lap, but coming to the checkered flag, Joey made a move down the backstretch and cleared Flaremane and with time up, Flaremane would finish two truck lengths behind Joey and scored the first last-place of hir career.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 29th was the #15 Acxiom Ford of Colby Harris, 28th was the #98 Hastings Premium Filters Ford of Al Lagasee and 27th was the #24 Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce Chevrolet of Nathan Ormond.

For the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series, this would be the fourth and final event held at the Portland Speedway, with officials announcing that in Season 5 the race would be moving over to the Portland International Raceway. In the four races held at the track, Jay Jefferson would win twice at the track(S1 and S3) while Cam Nixey(S2) and Celious Wolf(S4) would win the other two events. It is a sad thing to see when the smaller tracks would be phased out much like in the real NASCAR Truck Series, but it was obvious that times were changing to move on to bigger tracks in the future.
