ARCA Sportsman: Early crash at Iowa makes Andrew Olsen the first driver to trail in twice in series history

Andrew Olsen picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL ARCA Sportsman Series career in Monday's Season 1 Iowa 200 at the Iowa Speedway when his #9 Haas Automation / Food City Toyota was involved in a multi-car crash after 3 of the 25 laps.

The finish, which came in his 5th start, was his first on the circuit since the Coca-Cola 150k at the Heartland Park Topeka when he completed all 13 laps under power, 2 races ago. In the SCRL ARCA Sportsman Series, it's the 2nd for car #9 and the 2nd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 8th for the #9 and the 252nd from a crash.

After having trailed in the series first ever road course event, Olsen was looking to rebound in the very next event at the half mile oval at Lucas Oil, Olsen started a career best 5th and would be in contention all race long and settled for a 5th place finish, the best finish of his short career, with his previous best finish being a 20th in his second ever start at Mansfield.

In qualifying at the 0.875 mile short track, Olsen would post a time of 26.137 a full eight hundredths of a second behind Jacob Britts pole winning time, placing Olsen 28th while starting last was the #57 Mazak Machine Tools / 3M Dodge of Terry Lee.

When the race started, Lee would only be in last for the first turn before he knocked Olsen into last for the first lap, but the second time around Olsen knocked the #84 Goulds Pumps / Jani-King Ford of Ryan Rush into the final spot, a position Rush held as the field raced down the backstretch. While battling for 4th, the #55 IWX Racing / Jesel Chevrolet of Bulldog67 had gone wild in Turn 4 the previous lap and smacked the outside wall and was trying to get back into a rhythm, but coming down the backstretch, Bulldog67 made contact with Lucas Oil last-place finisher the #36 O'Reilly Toyota of Derrick Edison, sending both cars for a spin and starting a multi-car pileup, with both cars sliding down the track, Olsen tried to avoid the crash, only to run head on into Edison's car, destroying both cars, Olsen would limp back to pit road and into the garage, done for the day after three laps, while Edison would make one more circuit before he pulled behind the wall, following by the #79 Auto Value / Bumper To Bumper / Lucas Oil Dodge of Kenny Webster, both Edison and Webster being scored competing 4 laps.

The remaining Bottom Five would be filled 9 laps later then the race's second caution came out when the #38 Jani-King Ford of Josephi Krakowski was spun out after contact from the #26 Jackaroo / Shell Chevrolet of Mark Austin, sending Krakowski up the track into the #77 Jasper / Lucas Oil Dodge of Muhammad Zain Abdullah, with both cars backing into the outside wall before sliding the the track at the same time the #21 of Top Choice Lumper Products / Jackaroo Toyota of Karl-Jong Bensson, with Bensson slamming into the #38, destroying the front end of Bensson's right front and the #38 car as well, with both cars knocked out of the race, limping back to the garage and done for the day after 13 laps.
