Carter Joey picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL ARCA Late Model Series career in Monday's Season 1 Louisville 200 at the Louisville Motor Speedway when his #15 Chebucto / Fraserway Ford completed all 23 laps under power.
The finish came in his 8th career series start. In the SCRL ARCA Late Model Series, it's the 1st for car #15 and the 8th where the car was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #15 and the 253rd where the car was still running.
Entering the brand new year of racing, Joey had found success previously in the SCRL, having score 2 career SCRL sanctioned wins, and was looking to bring that success over to the ARCA series's 4th highest division; the SCRL ARCA Late Model Series. Joey started his career off with a 8th at Toledo, 11th at Wisconsin, 17th at Elko, a 19th at Lanier and a 10th at Salem. At Flat Rock, Joey started a series best 3rd and would move up into the lead by lap nine, leading the final 11 laps to score his first series win and his third overall in the league. After having scored his first series win, Joey went to Nashville Fairgrounds in a attempt to become the first driver in series history to win twice in the series, only to finish second to Danyal Gitirokh as the series headed toward the 8th race of the season at Louisville.
Legendary NR2003 track maker John Norton would score his first career SCRL sanctioned pole with a time of 17.017 seconds, while Joey was 0.159 seconds behind Norton's pole winning time, placing Joey 14th on the grid while starting last was Salem last-place finisher the #21 Drive Up Super Cleaners Chevrolet of Cole Nixey, 0.689 seconds behind Norton's time.
When the race started, Nixey would remain in last for the first two turns before he would knock the #7 PH Crane and Hoist Chevrolet of Kevin Cook into last, a position that he would hold for only one lap before he knocked the #48 Spray Paint and Equipment Chevrolet of Shannon Lowe into the final spot on Lap 2. Lowe would continue to struggle around the 0.438 mile short track, with Lowe remaining in last until the 15th lap when Lowe passed and knocked Joey into the last spot. Joey would continue to remain in last as he tried as much as he could to get back around Lowe but would run out of time, with Lowe and Cook finishing just ahead of Joey.
The remaining Bottom Five were: 17th was the #42 of Simon Fox and 16th was Elko last-place finisher the #5 Whited Auburn Truck & R.V. Center Chevrolet of Shane Russell.
