CUP: Uneventful race at Carrell gives Brian Grigsby the first last-place finish of his career

Brian Grigsby picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Monday's Race 4 at the Carrell Speedway when his #120 Ford completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 4th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #120 and the 17th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 1st for the #120 and 338th for running at the finish.

Entering the third ever season of the SCRL's highest series, Grigsby had attempted only one other event in the SCRL, while trying to make the field for the 2nd Annual SCRL Chili Bowl, Grigsby would fail to advance into the Main Event by finishing 6th in his Heat race before failing to advance in his last chance by finishing 7th in the C Main. Despite trying to compete in only one previous SCRL event, Grigsby would sign to compete full time in the SCRL's highest division and series; the SCRL Grand National Series. Grigsby made his official debut by finishing 33rd at Daytona Beach, finishing a career best 9th at Charlotte before finishing a career worst 40th in the last round at Lakeview.

The entry list for the second time this season would be filled with only the full-time drivers, as the part time drivers aren't scheduled to be back until the next round at Occoneechee.

In qualifying, Roger James would score his second career series pole with a time of 20.125 seconds. Grigsby would struggle around the half mile track, posting a time of 20.393, while only 0.268 seconds off Roger's time, it would place Grigsby 20th on the grid. Starting last in the race was the #88 Rocket Oldsmobile of Amber Reid, who posted a time of 20.478 seconds, 0.353 seconds off Roger's pole winning time.

On race day, Reid's stay in the field spot would last but one turn as she knocked the #42 Petty Special Plymouth of Ty Westner into last, a position he would hold for one lap before knocking Reid back to last again on Lap 2. Reid's stay would last for one circuit before knocking Grigsby to last for the first time on Lap 3. Grigsby would trail the field for two laps before he knocked the #44 of Boston Auston into last on Lap 5, but Auston would be in last for only one lap before Grigsby retook last place on Lap 6. Grigsby would remain in last for three more laps before knocking Auston back to last again on Lap 9, as Auston struggled to make any moves on the bottom of the track, trailing for the next six laps before finally making a move on the high side and putting Grigsby in last for the final time on Lap 16, and as much as Grigsby tried, he wouldn't be able to gain any more spots by the time the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #44 of Boston Auston, 20th was the #59 Buesink Police Special Ford of Cole O’Ash, 19th was Charlotte last-place finisher the #8 Fry Motors Lincoln of Chris Tuckett and 18th was the #42 of Ty Westner.
