Brian Grigsby picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Monday's Race 8 at the Martinsville Speedway when his #120 Ford completed all 20 laps under power.
The finish, which came in his 8th career series start, was his first on the circuit since Race 4 at the Carrell Speedway when he completed all 20 laps under power; 4 races ago. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 2nd for car #120 and the 21st for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #120 and 342nd for running at the finish.
After trailing for the first time in his career, Grigsby would rebound with an 11th place finish at Hillsborough, 13th at Arizona before finishing a career best 4th at North Wilkesboro in the last round.
The entry list for the fourth time this season would be filled with only the full-time drivers, as the part time drivers aren't scheduled to be back for several races.
In qualifying, Christian Russel would score his fourth career series pole with a time of 24.444 seconds. Grigsby would post a time of 24.777, 0.333 seconds off Russel's time, placing him 17th on the grid. Securing the 22nd and final starting spot was the #77 Smith-Klein Chevrolet Inc. Ford of McKenzie Dell, who posted a time of 25.060 seconds, 0.616 seconds off Russel's pole winning time.
When the race started, Dell remained in last place, 5.023 seconds back of the leader as she struggled around the half mile dirt track as the track was a one groove and bumpy track. Coming to complete the second lap, she was 5.685 seconds back of the lead as she remained on the low line of the track to try and gain any positions. Lap 3, Dell would trail 6.472 seconds back of the lead, 7.132 seconds on Lap 4 and then 7.885 seconds on Lap 5. Coming out of Turn 2, Dell would finally make a move and knocked Grigsby back to last on Lap 6, trailing 8.742 seconds back of the lead. Over the next fourteen laps, Grigsby would struggle to make any moves on the cars in front of him, and when the checkered flag waved, he was 10.714 seconds back of the leaders.
The remaining Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #77 of McKenzie Dell, 20th was the #44 of Boston Auston, 19th was the #93 Plymouth of Roger James and 18th was the #69 of Chakat Duskwatcher.
