Throwback BUSCH: Keith Stevens picks up the second last-place of the season at South Boston

Keith Stevens picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series career in the Season 1 Roses Stores 200 at the South Boston Speedway when his #88 unsponsored Pontiac completed 28 of the 30 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 16th start, was his first on the circuit since the Sportsman 200 at the Dover Downs International Speedway when he was involved in a multi-car crash after 5 of the 40 laps, 5 races ago

After trailing at Dover for the first time in his career, Stevens would continue to struggle with a finish of 18th at the second Hickory event, 35th Charlotte, 26th at Asheville before finishing 35th at the third Hickory event in the last round.

On race day, Stevens rolled off starting 21st while starting last was the #2 unsponsored Pontiac of Luke Rainey as the race would be slowed by one caution during the event, which so happened ended the battle for last. Having worked his way up to 13th by Lap 12, Steven entered Turn 1 on the high side of the track before he began to slow and would come to a stop in Turn 2. Stevens would be towed back to his pit stall where the crew would discover their driver only had a flat right front tire. Stevens would be sent back out onto the track, two laps behind the race leaders, and due to the lack of drivers having problems, Stevens was the only driver two laps down by the time the checkered flag was waved.

Finishing 41st was the #1 unsponsored Pontiac of Chakat Silverpaw, who was the only other driver to not finish on the lead lap, had smacked the wall on Lap 20 and would be forced to pit for repairs, before coming back out on track to finish the race under power.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same circuit as the race leaders: 40th was the #37 Hayes Jewelers Pontiac of Matt Johnson, 39th was Richmond last-place finisher the #47 unsponsored Pontiac of Jesse Turner and 38th was the #27 Mason Day Paving Chevrolet of Cole Nixey.
