Throwback Formula 1: Nick Kennedy's Formula 1 debut ends after only eight turns with him crashing out while battling for the lead

Nick Kennedy picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Quaker State Formula One Series career in the Season 1 Canadian Grand Prix at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when his #12 Benson and Hedges Jordan Honda was involved in a single-car crash without completing any of the 7 laps.

The finish came in his 1st career start.

At this point in his SCRL career, Kennedy was still a rookie, looking to make a name for himself in the racing world and had some big shoes to fill as the SCRL had revamped it's Formula division and was looking to start fresh, with the series making it's first race being at the twisting 2.459 mile road course in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.

On race day, Kennedy rolled off starting on pole while starting in the final spot was the #18 Jaguar Racing F1 Team entry of Dinkdrinker. Kennedy was able to get a good jump on the start and was able to keep the lead for the first seven turns before second place the #8 Mild Seven Benetton Renault of Chris Kyle got a run and passed Kennedy, as the two cars made contact entering Turn 8, Kennedy was forced off track and into the grass, sending an out of control Kennedy spinning into Turn 9, as Kennedy's car slid across the track nearly taking out Kyle before slamming hard into the tire barrier, completely destroying his car and bringing out the race's first caution of the day, and while Kennedy was able to walk from his car under his own power, his day was done without having completed a lap.

Finishing 21st was the aforementioned #8 of Chris Kyle, who was competing in his home country, suffered a broken Ignition while leading under caution.

It would take another three laps before the next two spots would be filled as the #14 Orange Arrows Asiatech of Sebastian Torres was battling the #17 Red Bull Sauber Petronas of Luke Rainey entering Turn 7 as the two cars made contact just like with what happened with Kennedy and Kyle, with Torres spinning out and hitting the tire barrier in the same spot as Kennedy did. Seconds later, Rainey would lose control and crashed hard into the tire barrier in Turn 10, bringing out the race's second and final caution, while Torres and Rainey would both be knocked out, with Torres being placed 20th and Rainey 19th.

Rounding out the Bottom Five in 18th was the #11 Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda of Dexter Black, who was the last car to finish under power on the same lap as the race leaders.

For Nick Kennedy, while his season started out horrible and not completing a lap, Kennedy would fight back by scoring his first ever Formula One win two races later at Hungaroring before going on to win three more races in a row at Circuit of the Americas, Suzuka and the season finale at Shanghai and would go on to win his first ever SCRL Championship. Kennedy has since gone on to win twice more in Season 2 at Magny-Cours and Red Bull Ring and currently has 16 career wins.
