Throwback BUSCH: Early Big One at Dover gives Keith Stevens the first of four last-place finishes in the Busch Series

Keith Stevens picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series career in the Season 1 Sportsman 200 at the Dover Downs International Speedway when his unsponsored #88 Pontiac was involved in a multi-car crash after 5 of the 40 laps.

The finish came in his 11th start. Entering Season 1 of the Busch Series, Stevens had found some brief success in the SCRL, having scored one career win, in the SCRL V8 Supercar Series at the Pukekohe Park Raceway road course. Stevens's busch career started off with a 14th at Daytona and the team would continue to struggle with a 32nd at the first Richmond event, 27th at Bristol, 17th at Martinsville, 23rd at Darlington, 19th at Hickory, 24th at South Boston, 40th at Caraway, 25th at the second Richmond event before finishing 32nd in the last round at Langley.

On race day, Stevens would roll off starting 22nd while starting last was Langley last-place finisher the unsponsored #39 Chevrolet of Hank Willis as the first four laps would be run clean before a pileup would break out on the backstretch as cars would come back up the track in front of traffic causing more cars to be involved with Steven having nowhere to go, causing his front end to be caved in and having to be towed back to the garage, his day done after only five laps.

The remaining Bottom Five would also be victims of the Lap 5 crash; 41st was the #07 Grant's Auto Glass Pontiac of Nick Kennedy, 40th was the #05 Wheelers Grocery Chevrolet of Alexander Rowe, 39th was the unsponsored #33 Chevrolet of Jay Barker and finishing 38th was the #99 Washington Freightliner Pontiac of Benoit Lothaire-Irvine, who was able to limp around to complete an extra lap before pulling behind the wall.
