Throwback BUSCH: Kyle Mests trails for the third and final time in his Busch Series career at Asheville; becomes the first driver to trail in back-to-back races

Kyle Mests picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series career in the Season 1 Inaugural 200 at the Asheville Speedway when his #12 Industrial Boiler Pontiac completed all 15 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 14th start, was his first on the circuit since the Mello Yello 300 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway when he was involved in a multi-car crash after 2 of the 40 laps, 1 race ago

After trailing at Charlotte, Mests once again found himself having to complete in a LCQ(Last Chance Qualifier) to try and advance to compete in the main event.

On race day, Mests rolled off starting 14th while starting last was South Boston last-place finisher the #00 Thomas Bros. Country Ham Buick of Dinkdrinker. The fifteen lap LCQ would be a rather calm event with battles for position and close racing action, and by the time the checkered flag was waved for Chakat Whitelion, Mests had fallen back to last and would not advance to the main race.

Rounding out the Bottom Five was: 41st the #37 Hayes Jewelers Pontiac of Matt Johnson, 40th was Bristol last-place finisher the unsponsored #70 Pontiac of Todd Kennedy, 39th was Caraway last-place finisher unsponsored #02 Pontiac of Grayson Acevedo and 38th was the unsponsored #34 Pontiac of Sebastian Torres.

This would be the last time that Mests would trail the field in the Busch Series but he would finally visit victory lane, winning the Roses Stores 200 at South Boston for what would be the lone victory of his busch series career. Mests would finish 19th in his last busch start at Martinsville and would finish 19th in the final point standings.
