Formula 1: Crash prevents Bryson Hill from completing a lap at Suzuka; Richard Torres wins SCRLASTCAR Championship

Bryson Hill picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series career in the Season 2 Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka Circuitland when his #77 Williams Martini Racing was involved in a multi-car crash without completing any of the 6 laps.

The finish came in his 19th career start. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 1st for car #77 and the 18th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 7th for the #77 and the 246th from a crash.

Bryson joined the Formula One Series with his brother Tanner with both be debuting in the highest Formula division run by the SCRL. Bryson finished 8th in his debut at the crash filled race at Melbourne, 7th at Bahrain, 21st at Hockenheimring after a broken header. A 19th at Zandvoort, 13th at CTMP, 11th at Monza, 5th at Shanghai, 12th at Monaco, 13th at Silverstone, 14th at Magny-Cours, 19th at Spa, 5th at Yas Marina, 8th at COTA, 3rd at Hungaroring, 8th at Red Bull Ring, 19th at Estoril before scoring his first SCRL sanctioned win at Mexico City. In the last round at Kyalami, Bryson started started 6th and finished 9th.

Enterting the season finale, Richard Torres has a one last-place finisher lead over Trevor Collins, Jack Hallec with Collins and Hallec needing to finish last in order to win the championship, if anyone but them finishes last, it would give the SCRLASTCAR Championship to Richard.

Trey Wright pulls onto pit road.
On race day, Bryson rolled off starting in the 13th spot while starting in the final spot was the #12 Sauber F1 Team of Nick Kennedy. Just as the field made their way their into the final chicane, Shanghai last-place finisher the #11 Sahara Force India F1 Team of Trey Wright made a sharp right turn and followed the pace car down pit road as the green flag waved. Wright made his way to his paddock as the crew put the car up on the jack and put on right side tires before sending their driver back out on the track.

As Wright tried to catch up with the back of the field, the drivers made their way to the final chicane with Hill not having enough time to slow down, running into the back of of the #6 Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team of Colin Dryburgh before he was run into from behind by the #20 Renault Sport F1 Team of Ty Dent. Bryson would spin out briefly, bringing out a local caution, before driving away and into the pits. Bryson's damage was enough for the car to be retired by the third lap, the car never crossing the start/finish line and was scored having not completed a lap, and with that the battle for the SCRLASTCAR Championship went to Richard Torres.

Finishing 21st was two time last-place finisher the #26 Scuderia Toro Rosso of David Solomon, who while running in 9th on the second lap, Solomon lost control of his car in Turn 4, sliding off track and slamming into the outside wall, coming back across the track and hitting the wall in Turn 5. Solomon's car would be pushed off track and into the garage with the team making quick repairs and sent their driver back out onto the track to complete the final two laps under power.

20th was the #8 Haas F1 Team of Joseph Huffman, who while running in 8th, suffered a blown engine with two laps to go, stalling in Turn 4 with the car having to be pushed off the track after the other cars had driven by, being scored on the same lap as Solomon but was listed above him.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 19th was the aforementioned #11 of Trey Wright and 18th was the #19 Williams Martini Racing of Patrick Smith.

The Season 2 SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series went to Zachary Fitzwater, the third for the driver and the first for his team Manor Racing and owner Stephen Fitzpatrick. Fitzwater had one last-place finish - coming at Magny-Cours - and is the only time the the number 88 has finished last in series history. Congratulations to Fitzwater and the Manor Racing team for having a great year.
