Throwback CANADA: Al Lagasee's off camera wreck fills up the Bottom Five fast at CTMP

Al Lagasee picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Tim Hortons Canadian Series career in the Season 1 Vortex Brake Pads 200 at the Mosport International Raceway when his #00 Aaron's Dodge was involved in a multi-car crash after 1 of 7 laps.

The finish came in his 4th career series start.

Al had entered the SCRL as a tag-team with his brother Jack, and the very second they debuted, the brothers had proven they belonged in the SCRL, with Jack winning the Season 1 SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series Championship while Al wasn't far behind, picking up his first championship in the IndyCar Series. Al's Canadian Series career started off with a 7th at Mosport, a 8th at Circuit ICAR and a 5th in the last round at Delaware.

On race day, Lagasee started 21st while rolling off from the final spot was the #23 Tim Hortons Dodge of Cassie Waz but the tricky ten turn road course struck early. As drivers made their way clean through the first eight turns, running side-by-side in Turn 9 and 10 chaos broke out as the contact between Lagasee and the #47 Maskimo / Somavrac Dodge of Riley Spurlytube rubbed fenders with Spurlytube spinning out in Turn 9, while Lagasee struggled to keep control, running out of room and hitting the water barrels at the start of pit road, destroying his car and ending his day.

The next two spots, 34th and 33rd was the #01 Canadian Tire / MotoMaster / Sylvania Dodge of Joe Jefferson and the #66 Quaker State / Durabody Dodge of Tony Newman, who both crashed hard in Turn 10, bringing out the first caution of the day.

32nd was the #8 Farmers Feed Families Dodge of AJ Jones, who suffered a broken gearbox while running in 3rd coming to the restart, as he pulled into the garage as the field entered Turn 2, his team looked under the hood and found that the gearbox was broken, and with only two laps to go, the team knew it was hopeless to get back out on track, so the car was done for the day.

Rounding out the Bottom Five was the #47 of Riley Spurlytube, who limped around the track with his damage, falling one lap behind, but was running at the finish.

Al Lagasee continues to compete in the SCRL, having scored 5 career wins along with his IndyCar Championship.
