CUP: Caution free event at the Air Base Speedway leads to rookie Breezy Brisbane's first career last-place finish

Breezy Brisbane picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Friday's Race 23 at the Air Base Speedway when his #82 Oates Motor Co. Hudson completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 23rd career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #82 and the 35th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 3rd for the #82 and 356th for running at the finish.

Brisbane was one of several rookie drivers who signed up to compete for the first time ever in the Grand National Series without any previous experience in the SCRL, choosing to sign on to race the full 41 length schedule. A decent 15th place finish at Beach & Road Course would be followed by a 16th at Charlotte, 21st at Lakeview, 14th at Carrell, 27th at Hillsborough before scoring his first points paying finish, a 3rd at Arizona State Fairgrounds. After scoring his first points finish, Brisbane would begin a string of five finishes in a row in the points with a 8th at North Wilkesboro, 6th at Martinsville, 10th at Canfield, 2nd at Columbus before struggling to finish 20th at Columbia.

A 15th at Dayton, 12th in the return trip to Carrell and a 19th at Grand Rapids would be followed by Brisbane's best performance by finishing 2nd at Bainbridge. A 8th at Heidelberg would be followed by a 18th at Asheville-Weaverville before, in just his 18th career start, Brisbane would score his first career SCRL sanctioned victory by winning at Monroe County. A 4th at Altamont-Schenectady Fairgrounds would prove the win wasn't a fluke, as he would finish 10th at Detriot, 13th at Fort Miami before finishing a disappointing 17th in the last round at Morristown.

The entry list for the 17th time this season would be filled with only the full-time drivers, the third race in a row. The full time drivers are not scheduled to return until the 24th race of the season, the Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway.

In qualifying, Cole O'Ash would score his second pole of the season, with a time of 27.708 seconds. Brisbane would struggle around the bumpy half mile track, posting a time of 27.939, 0.231 off O'Ash's pole time, placing placing Brisbane 14th on the grid. Securing the 22nd and final starting spot was Arizona last-place finisher the #88 Rocket Oldsmobile of Amber Reid, who posted a time of 28.126, 0.418 seconds off O'Ash's time.

When the race started, Reid's stay in the final spot lasted only two turns before she knocked Asheville-Weaverville last-place finisher the #58 Kaiser of Brent Davison back to last. Davison would struggle around the bumpy half mile track over the first half of the event, trailing for the first ten laps before knocking the #100 of Jeff Stott back to last on Lap 11. Stott would trail for two laps before knocking Davison back to last once again on Lap 14, a position Davison would hold for two more laps before knocking three time last-place finisher the #120 Hudson of Brian Grigsby into last on Lap 17. Grigsby would trail for two laps as well before knocking Brisbane back to last with one lap to go, and with Brisbane unable to make a move over the final circuit, he would trail the field as the checkered flag waved, nearly nine seconds behind the race leaders.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #58 of Brent Davison, 20th was the #120 of Brian Grigsby, 19th was Columbia last-place finisher the #78 Lincoln of Addy Jade and 18th was Canfield last-place finisher the #50 Mercury of Christian Russel.
