Dallas Jordan picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Friday's Race 16 at the Vernon Fairgrounds when his #42 Bardahl Plymouth completed all 20 laps under power.
The finish came in his 16th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #42 and the 12th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 10th for the #42 and 316th for running at the finish.
Jordan was one of several drivers who would be not only making their SCRL Grand National Series debuts this season but also their overall SCRL debut, choosing to sign up full time driving for the legendary Petty Enterprises. Dallas finished 24th in his debut at Daytona Beach, 15th at the spring Charlotte event, 8th at Langhorne, 11th at Martinsville, 15th at Canfield, 24th at the spring Vernon event, 21st at the spring Dayton event, 13th at Monroe, 22nd at the summer Charlotte event, 38th at Hillsborough before scoring a career best 3rd at the summer Dayton event. In just his 12th career start, Jordan would lead flag-to-flag and scored his first career win at Hamburg, 16th at Darlington, 27th at the summer Langhorne event before finishing 16th in the last round at North Wilkesboro.
The entry list for the tenth time this season would be only the full-time drivers, as the track wasn't big enough to fit all the full and part-time drivers.
In qualifying, Jay Jefferson would score his first career pole with a time of 24.378 seconds. Jordan would struggle around the bumpy half mile track, posting a time of 23.044, 0.258 seconds off Jefferson's time, placing Jordan 22nd on the grid. Starting last in the race was two time last-place finisher the #97 Mercury of Brent Davison, who posted a time of 24.870, 0.492 seconds behind Jefferson's pole winning time.
On race day, Davison would trail for the first two laps before knocking Dallas back to last for the first time on Lap 3, with Dallas trailing for two laps himself before knocking the #1 Fabulous Hudson Hornet Hudson of Johnston McClellan into last on Lap 5. McClellan's stay in last would be only one lap as he knocked the #89 Ford of Austin Hiller into last on Lap 6, with Hiller also remaining in last for only one lap as he passed spring Vernon last-place finisher the #60 Oldsmobile of Omar Gutierrez, but his stay in last was also only one lap as he knocked two time last-place finisher the #91 Plymouth of AJ Jones into last on Lap 8.
Jones would trail for two laps before knocking the #15 of Joe Jefferson into last on Lap 10, a spot he would hold for three laps before knocking Omar back to last on Lap 13. Omar would trail for four laps before he knocked the #65 Ford of Brandon Mayhew into last on Lap 17 and was running there when the battle for last came to an end. While racing for 20th, Dallas was tapped and spun by Daytona Beach last-place finisher the #44 Daytona Motors Cadillac of Chase Miller, sending Jordan up the track in Turn 4 and bringing the race to an end behind the pace car as Jordan fell back to the final spot as he re fired his car and drove behind the cars in front as the race ended under yellow.
Rounding out the Bottom Five were: 29th was the aforementioned #65 of Brandon Mayhew, 28th was the #15 of Joe Jefferson, 27th was the #10 of Jeremy Ickle and 26th was summer Charlotte last-place finisher the #3 Ford of Chris Henry.
