Cam Nixey picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Lucas Oil ARCA Racing Series career in the Season 1 Pennsylvana ARCA 125 at the Pocono Raceway when his #22 Ebay Motors / St. Jude Children's Hospital Dodge was involved in a two-car crash after 7 of the 20 laps.
The finish, which came in his 14th start, was his first on the circuit since the Kentucky 150 at the Kentucky Speedway when he was involved in a two-car crash after 14 of the 27 laps; 8 races ago.
After trailing for the first time in his ARCA career at Kentucky, the Cunningham Motorsports team rebounded with Cam finishing 3rd in the series first trip at Pocono, before struggling to a 18th place finish at Michigan, 19th at Texas, 16th at NJMP, 25th at Iowa, 18th at Chicagoland before finishing 5th in the last round at Lucas Oil Raceway.
On race day, Cam rolled off starting 16th while starting in the final spot was the #11 Syngenta Ford of Todd Kennedy. When the green flag waved, the field safety made it's way past Turn 1 with no problem, but entering Turn 2 the #58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet of Jesse Turner was spun out after contact from the #5 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet of Jay Barker, bringing out the day's first caution. Turner's car would hit the safer barrier, giving him damage to the right side of his car as he was sent back across the path into the #82 unsponsored Empire Racing Ford of Zachary Fitzwater giving both cars further damage. Turner would trail for the first two laps but on Lap 3 the #3 unsponsored Brevak Racing Dodge of Teejay Handley who was leading under caution was forced to pit when he had a flat left rear tire, and would start last when the field went back to racing.
The race would get it's first caution free lap under green on Lap 5, but one circuit later trouble struck in Turn 2 once again as the #1 ModSpace Ford of Grayson Acevedo would go wide exiting Turn 2 and would swerve to miss the wall, but came down too far and made contact with Cam, sending both cars down the track and then head on into the inside wall at over 160 mph in a horrifying wreck. The caution flag would wave and a eerie silence would cover the 2.500 mile Tricky Triangle as fans watched and waited, and finally after a few seconds, the window nets finally came down to signal both drivers were alright, with both climbing from their destroyed cars and taking the mandatory ride to the infield care center, both drivers out for the day.
The remaining Bottom Five would be filled up just four laps later when a four car wreck broke out in Turn 1: 39th was the #55 unsponsored Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet of Jay Jefferson, 38th was the unsponsored #17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford of Tommy Hudson and 37th was the aforementioned #11 of Todd Kennedy.
