Throwback MEXICO: Nick Kennedy's hard crash on Lap 4 makes him first driver to trail a field in the Mexico Series at Phoenix

Nick Kennedy picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Telcel Mexico Series career in the Season 1 Toyota 120 at the Phoenix International Raceway when his #28 Policia Federal Dodge was involved in a multi-car crash after 4 of the 34 laps.

The finish came in his 1st career series start. As soon as a Mexico carset was made for NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, NR2003, the author of this blog was quick to download the carset and built the SCRL Telcel Mexico Series. Long time NR2003 league owner himself, NR Leagues, aka Chris Kyle, made the official logo that can be seen on this page, I owe him alot for his help over the years and I am proud to call him a close and trusted friend. The struggle with holding a Mexico Series was the lack of tracks run in the actual series has not been made, therefore, replacement tracks had to be used to fill out the 15 race schedule.

On race day, Kennedy would roll off the field starting 8th while the #15 Citizen Toyota of Colin Dryburgh would trail the field when the green flag flew. For the first three laps, Dryburgh was in the final spot until on the Backstretch chaos broke out. The #2 Arris Toyota of Steve Morgan was going three-wide with the #20 Avaya / Axtel X-Tremo Toyota of Zachary Fitzwater and the #1 FedEx Toyota of Simon Fox as the three drivers ran out of room, spinning the #2 of Morgan out as he spun down the track before back up onto the racing surface at that time Kennedy moved up to try and avoid but ran out of room, nailing the #2 car as his car's front half was completely destroyed. Kennedy would limp back around to the pits, crossing the start/finish line before pulling into the garage, his day done after only 4 laps.

11th was the aforementioned #20 of Zachary Fitzwater, 10th was the #46 Avaya / Axtel X-Tremo Toyota of Connor Hurley and 9th was the #31 54D Chevrolet of Rocco Twyman, all taken out in a big crash on Lap 25. Rounding out the Bottom Five in 8th was the #3 Telcel / Samsung Toyota of Morgan McPherson, who spun out coming to the White Flag as he would trail for the final lap.

Today, Nick Kennedy has ranked up 12 career wins along the way to 1 Championship, in the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, and last competed in the SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series, where he finished 26th in points.
