CUP: Off camera spin leads to Chase Chryst scoring his first career last-place finish at Heidelberg

Chase Chryst picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Thursday's Race 16 at the Heidelberg Raceway when his #10 Mercury completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 5th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #10 and the 28th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 22nd for the #10 and 349th for running at the finish.

Chryst is still a rookie when it comes to the SCRL, having only competed in the SCRL's second ever Snowball Derby, posting a time of 34th in qualifying and forced to race in the Snowflake 100, finishing 24th in the race and failing to transfer into the main event. Nearly a year later, Chryst would finally make his return to the SCRL, signing up to compete for a part-time schedule, with plans to make a run for the championship in a later season. Chryst made his official SCRL debut by finishing a disappointing 29th at the Beach & Road Course, before being forced to skip the next round at Charlotte, he would return by finishing 39th at Lakeview. After skipping the next round at Carrell, Chryst would finish 25th at Hillsborough, and after skipping Arizona, he would finally score his first career Top 10, finishing 6th at North Wilkesboro. Chryst would then be forced to skip the next eight events at Martinsville, Canfield, Columbus, Columbia, Dayton, Carrell, Grand Rapids as well as the last round at Bainbridge.

The entry list for the five time this season would be filled with both the full-time drivers as well as the part-time drivers, the first time since North Wilkesboro, nine races ago.

In qualifying, Nick Holiday would score his second pole of his career with a time of 19.742 seconds. Chryst would struggle in qualifying, posting a time of 20.007, 0.265 seconds off Holiday's time, placing him 27th on the grid. Securing the 42nd and final starting spot was the #23 Studebaker of John Autzen, who posted a time of 20.241 seconds, 0.499 seconds off Holiday's pole winning time.

When the race started, Autzen would remain in the final spot for the first two turns before knocking the #100 of Jeff Stott back to last, with Stott trailing the field for the first lap, and would trail for the next three circuits, at which point Chryst had fallen back to 31st. While battling for 21st, the #21 R.L.L.R.B. Bowling Lincoln of Adriana Costa would be spun out in Turn 1 by the #69 of Chakat Duskwatcher, with Costa's car coming down the track right in front of Chryst's car. Despite no caution coming out, Chryst would struggle over the next ten laps to gain any position before slowly cutting down the margin, before finally knocking Adriana Costa back to last on Lap 15. Costa would trail for the next two laps before knocking the #43 Nash of Nathan Ormond back to last on Lap 17.

Ormond would trail for one lap before knocking the #17 Plymouth of Abby Russel back to last on Lap 18 but the next circuit Russel would knock Chryst back to last on the final lap, and Chryst would fail to fight back, finishing last when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 41st was the aforementioned #17 of Abby Russel, 40th was the #21 of Adriana Costa, 39th was the #43 of Nathan Ormond and 38th was Carrell last-place finisher the #77 Smith-Klein Chevrolet Inc. Ford of McKenzie Dell.
