CUP: Chakat Duskwatcher trails in first ever race at Altamont-Schenectady

Chakat Duskwatcher picked up the 1st last place finish of hir SCRL Grand National Series career in the December 5th Race 19 at the Altamont-Schenectady Fairgrounds when hir #69 completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in hir 19th career series start. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 1st for car #69 and the 31st for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #69 and 352nd for running at the finish.

Coming into Season 3 of the SCRL's highest division, Duskwatcher has been competing in several series in the SCRL since making hir debut back in 2020 in the ARCA Truck Series, making starts in SCRL Formula 2 Series, the SCRL Busch Grand National Series and the SCRL CART Series, but had yet to visit victory lane as shi signed up to compete full time to compete in hir first season in the Grand National Series. Duskwatcher would make hir debut at Beach & Road Course, starting 29th and finishing a disappointing 32nd, followed by a 6th at Charlotte, 4th at Lakeview before scoring hir first career win in just hir 4th career start in the Grand National Series at Carrell.  A 19th at Hillsborough would be followed by a 6th at Arizona State, 37th at North Wilkesboro, 18th at Martinsville, 11th at Canfield, 10th at Columbus, 5th at Columbia and a 6th at Dayton, before scoring hir second straight win at Carrell before winning in the very next round at Grand Rapids, to become the first driver in series history to win back-to-back races.

A disappointing 6th at Bainbridge would prevent hir from tying for the most wins in a row as shi would struggle in the next round at Heidelberg by finishing 28th, 3rd at Asheville-Weaverville before finishing 10th in the last round at Monroe County.

The entry list for the 14th time this season would be filled with only the full-time drivers, with the part-time drivers not scheduled to be back on the track until the next race at the Michigan State Fairgrounds.

In qualifying, Cole O'Ash would score his first pole of his career with a time of 20.993 seconds. Duskwatcher perform great in qualifying, posting a time of 21.076, 0.083 seconds off O'Ash's time, placing hir 6th on the grid. Securing the 22nd and final starting spot was Charlotte last-place finisher the #8 Fry Motors Lincoln of Chris Tuckett, who posted a time of 21.252, 0.259 seconds off O'Ash's time.

When the race started, Tuckett would struggle around the half mile dirt track, trailing for the first lap before knocking the #4 of Austin Line into last on Lap 2. Line would trail for only one lap before knocking Columbia last-place finisher the #78 Lincoln of Addy Jade into last on Lap 3, but Jade's stay in the final spot would last just one lap before she knocked two-time last-place finisher the #81 Oldsmobile of Sergeant Young into last on Lap 4. Young would struggle around the bumpy track for the next two laps before knocking fellow two time last-place finisher the #120 Hudson of Brian Grigsby into last on Lap 7. Grigsby was determined to not trail for a third time and would knock Young back to last after two laps, with Young trailing another two laps once again before knocking the two-time last-place finisher the #60 Ford of Josh Barker to last on Lap 12. Barker would trail for the next four laps before knocking Monroe County last-place finisher the #89 Plymouth of Brent James into last on Lap 17.

James would trail for just one lap before knocking the #44 of Boston Auston into last on Lap 18, as he would trail as the field took the white flag, but entering Turn 1 he would knock Duskwatcher, who had stuggled all race long, back to last, and Duskwatcher running out of time and would finish last for the first time in hir career.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #44 of Boston Auston, 20th was the #120 of Brian Grigsby, 19th was the #89 of Brent James and 18th was the #60 of Josh Barker.
