CUP: Josh Baker trails in caution free race in first Cup Series event in the state of Michigan

Josh Barker picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Monday's Race 14 at the Grand Rapids Speedrome when his #60 Ford completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 14th career series start, was his first on the circuit since Race 3 at the Lakeview Speedway when he completed all 15 laps under power; 11 races ago. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 3rd for car #60 and the 26th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #60 and 347th for running at the finish.

After trailing the field at Lakeview, Barker would rebound by finishing 9th at Carrell, 4th at Hillsborough, 4th at Arizona State before struggling to finish 40th at North Wilkesboro. A 9th at Martinsville would be followed by a 13th at Canfield, 3rd at Columbus, 18th at Columbia, 12th at Dayton before finishing 15th in the last round at Carrell.

The entry list for the tenth time this season would be filled with only the full-time drivers.

In qualifying, Chakat Duskwatcher would score hir first career series pole with a time of 22.033 seconds. Barker would post a time of 22.257, 0.224 seconds off Duskwatcher's time, placing him 9th on the grid. Securing the 22nd and final starting spot was Arizona State last-place finisher the #88 Rocket Oldsmobile of Amber Reid, who posted a time of 22.498 seconds, 0.465 seconds off Duskwatcher's pole winning time.

When the race started, Reid remained in last for the first lap around the half mile track before knocking the #4 Coast Grain Hudson of Austin Line into last on Lap 2. Line's stay in the final spot would last just one lap before knocking two-time last-place finisher the #120 Hudson of Brian Grigsby into last on Lap 3. Grigsby would trail for the next two laps before knocking Columbus last-place finisher the #51 Cherokee Garage Oldsmobile of Austin Abilene into the final spot on Lap 5. Abilene would trail for one lap before knocking the #59 Buesink Police Special Ford of Cole O’Ash into last on Lap 7, with Cole trailing the field until Lap 10 when he knocked Grigsby back to last for the second time on Lap 10.

Grigsby would trail for one more circuit until knocking Canfield last-place finisher the #50 Mercury of Christian Russel, with Russel trailing for two laps before knocking the #82 Oates Motor Co. Oldsmobile of Breezy Brisbane into last on Lap 13. Brisbane would trail for two laps before he'd knock Grigsby back to last for the third time on Lap 15. Grigsby would struggle for the next four laps to gain any ground before finally knocking Barker for last for the first time on Lap 19, and with one lap to go, Barker wouldn't have enough time to gain any spots over the final half mile and would trail the field when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #120 of Brian Grigsby, 20th was the #50 of Christian Russel, 19th was the #82 of Breezy Brisbane and 18th was the #4 of Austin Line.
