SHORT TRACK: Juniper Skunktaur crashes out near halfway at North Wilkesboro; SCRLASTCAR Championship goes to Rebecca Zeal

Juniper Skunktaur picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Short Track Division career in Sunday's Season 1 Race 11 at the North Wilkesboro Speedway when his #32 Crazy Dave's Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after 7 of the 20 laps.

The finish came in his 11th career start. In the SCRL Short Track Division, it's the 1st for car #32 and the 3rd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 16th for the #32 and the 290th from a crash.

Entering the first ever Short Track Division season, Juniper had raced in only two series in his entire SCRL career, with his first being in the ARCA Midget Series and then in the Busch Grand National Series, and it was in the Busch Series that Juniper would score his first ever victory by winning at Darlington. Competing for the first time in over a year, it was expected Juniper would have lost his edge but that was quickly debunked when he finished 6th in his first race at Dayton before scoring an 8th at Charlotte. A disappointing finish of 13th at Greenville-Pickens would be followed by a season best of 4th at Hickory, before finishing 10th at Bowman-Gray, 11th at Martinsville, 10th at Monroe County, before scoring his worse finish of the season of 17th at Richmond. A 7th at Langley would be followed by Juniper's best race of the season, starting a decent 10th, Juniper would work his way into the lead on Lap 7 and would lead for eight laps and scored his second ever career win heading into the season finale 8th in points, unable to win the championship, but a shot at becoming the first driver to win back-to-back races in the Short Track Division.

In qualifying, Brantley Higdon scored his first career pole, posting a time of 20.079 seconds. Starting last in the race was Juniper, who posted the slowest time of 20.547, 0.468 seconds behind Brantley's pole winning time.

Rebecca Zeal heads to pit road at the start.
On race day, Juniper's stay in last didn't even last more than a full lap as two-time last-place finisher the #17 Carling Dodge of Rebecca Zeal suffered a flat right front tire on the pace lap and was forced to pull into the pits as the field went to green. A massive sixteen car wreck would break out in Turn 4, preventing Rebecca from going a lap down and she was able to catch up to the rest of the field under yellow. When the field went back to racing on Lap 6, she was still trailing the field and was in the final spot when the battle for last came to a sudden end.

While battling for 14th, Langley last-place finisher the #9 Coors Ford of Bailey Leigh would make contact with Bowman-Gray last-place finisher the #13 Smokey's Chevrolet Chakat Blackpaw, sending both cars into the inside wall before bouncing across the track, right in front of Juniper, sending Juniper and Blackpaw nearly head on into the concrete wall. Juniper would limp around to the pits and would pull behind the wall, being scored as last, on Lap 8, and when his car was retired it would give the SCRLASTCAR Championship to Rebecca Zeal.

Limping around for an extra lap, Blackpaw would compete one more lap on track before pulling behind the wall on Lap 8, hir day and season done just before halfway.

Finishing in 20th was the aforementioned #9 of Bailey Leigh, who would lose a lap during repairs and with no more cautions or cars having problems over the final ten laps, she was the lone car to not be running on the same lap as the race leaders.

Rounding out the Bottom Five on the same lap as the race leaders were; 19th was the #98 Super America Ford of Amber Mayhew in 18th was the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet of Austin Greenwood.

The Season 1 SCRL Short Track Division Championship went to rookie R.T. Smith, the first time he had ever competed in any SCRL season. Smith scored no last-place finishes in his championship season but did finish in the Bottom 10 three times, with his worst finish being a 16th at Charlotte. Congratulations to Smith on making history by winning the championship in his first ever attempt.

Higdon's stay in last was brief as he trailed for one lap before knocking the #07 Bubba's Stumble Inn Ford of Savannah Line to last on Lap 9. Line's stay would also only last one lap before knocking Coyne to last on Lap 10. Over the next five laps, Coyne would lose touch with the cars in front of her, falling two full seconds behind and was more than nine seconds behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.

SHORT TRACK: Flat tire while running in 11th gives Bailey Leigh his first last-place finish at Langley

Bailey Leigh picked up the 1st last place finish of her SCRL Short Track Division career in Friday's Season 1 Race 9 at the Langley Speedway when her #9 Coors Ford completed 19 of the 20 laps under power.

The finish came in her 9th career start. In the SCRL Short Track Division, it's the 1st for car #9 and the 6th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 11th for the #9 and the 334th for running at the finish.

Leigh was one of several drivers who would make their debut in the SCRL's brand newest series and was looking to hopefully make a good showing to one day compete in the SCRL's highest division; the SCRL Grand National Series. Leigh would struggle in his debut, starting 21st and finishing a disappointing 19th at Dayton and would following it up with a second finish of 19th at Charlotte before finishing 20th at Greenville-Pickens, a 17th at Hickory, 15th at Bowman-Gray before finally scoring points for the first time with a finish of 9th at Martinsville. Despite scoring points for the first time, the finishes just wasn't there for Leigh as another 19th place at Monroe County would be followed by a 16th in the last round at Richmond.

In qualifying, Rohan Marmot scored his second ever pole in the Short Track Division, posting a time of 18.862 seconds. Leigh would impress in qualifying, posting a time of 19.123 seconds, 0.261 seconds behind Rohan's time, which placed Leigh 8th on the starting lineup, the second best start of the season after qualifying second at Monroe County. Starting last in the race was two-time last-place finisher the #17 Carling Dodge of Rebecca Zeal, who posted the slowest time of 19.396, 0.534 seconds behind Rohan's pole winning time.

On race day, Rebecca's stay in the final lap only lasted one turn as she knocked Bowman-Gray last-place finisher the #13 Smokey's Chevrolet Chakat Blackpaw into last with Blackpaw trailing the field for the first lap. Blackpaw would struggle to stay in touch with the field around the 0.395 mile short track and was trailing the field for the first five laps when the battle for last would come to an end. Leigh, who at this point in the race had dropped back to 11th, began to suddenly slow entering Turn 1 holding up the bottom lane before pulling to the inside of the track on the backstretch and on pit road, reporting of a flat tire. Leigh's crew would quickly put four fresh tires on the Ford and sent Leigh back out on track, but already one lap behind the race leaders, with the team hoping someone else would have a problem over the final fourteen laps, but unfortunately for Leigh that wouldn't happen, as a clean caution free race would be run and when the checkered flag waved, Leigh was the only car to not finish on the lead lap.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 21st was the #28 LaFayette Ford of Kaitlyn Coyne, 20th was Monroe County last-place finisher the #74 unsponsored Chevrolet of John Joseph, 19th was Richmond race winner the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet of Austin Greenwood and 18th was the aforementioned #13 of Chakat Blackpaw.

However, to go along with being the most successful driver in terms of wins and championships, Whitelion also has the record for scoring the most last-place finishes in a career, with a total of 20. With a brand new series added to the SCRL's lineup, Whitelion was one of twenty one drivers who signed up to compete in the Short Track Division, Whitelion finish a disappointing 15th in hir debut at Dayton but would quickly rebound with a runner up finishes at Charlotte and Greenville-Pickens before scoring hir league leading 40th career SCRL win at Hickory. On race day, Ebrahimian would trail for the first two turns when the battle for last came to a sudden end as Whitelion was battling with the #9 Coors Ford of Bailey Leigh and Monroe County last-place finisher the #74 unsponsored Chevrolet of John Joseph as contact between those three cars would force Leigh up into Bowman-Gray last-place finisher the #13 Smokey's Chevrolet Chakat Blackpaw and the #07 Bubba's Stumble Inn Ford of Savannah Line, giving Blackpaw severe damage to the left side of hir car. Further down the track, as Whitelion was trying to regain control of hir car, shi would misjudge and slam into the pit road wall and sent hir back out onto the track in front of two-time last-place finisher the #17 Carling Dodge of Rebecca Zeal as Hickory last-place finisher the #55 Bill-Tin Chevrolet of Alexa Lake, Blackpaw, Leigh and Ebrahimian would all be involved in the crash.

Whitelion's day would be done as shi was unable to drive back to pit road and was scored as last, while Zeal would make it past the start/finish line before pulling behind the wall to be scored 21st with Blackpaw pulling in the garage one lap later on Lap 2 to be scored 20th.

It would take only four more laps before 19th would be filled as the #57 Dew Drop Inn Ford of Chase Miller was riding around in 10th spot just before the race went back to racing, pulled onto pit road reporting of a flat tire. Miller's team would take the tires of the car, but it was determined that the tire had damaged the axle of the car and with nearly half the race completed, Miller's team would decide to retire from the event, with Miller being listed as "out" on Lap 9.

SHORT TRACK: Rookie John Joseph goes for a wild ride and scores his first career last-place finish at Monroe County

John Joseph picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Short Track Division career in Wednesday's Season 1 Race 6 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds when his #74 unsponsored Chevrolet was involved in a single-car crash after 9 of the 20 laps.

The finish came in his 7th career start. In the SCRL Short Track Division, it's the 1st for car #74 and the 1st from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #74 and the 288th from a crash.

Joseph was one of at least half of the field that was making their SCRL debuts by signing up to compete full time in the newest series sanctioned by this league, as Joseph had hopes of competing as many laps as he could during the season and possibly scoring a Top 10 or maybe even a Top 5, and if those goals was met, possibly even sneak in a win or two if the cards would fall the way he hoped, and who knows maybe a championship in his first ever attempt. Joseph would qualify 11th and finished 12th in his debut race at Dayton before following it up with a 11th at Charlotte, 14th at Greenville-Pickens, 20th at Hickory, 7th at Bowman-Gray before finishing 17th in the last round at Martinsville.

Starting last in the race was the #99 Super America Ford of R.T. Smith, who posted the slowest time of 19.524, 0.718 seconds behind Ozkan's pole winning time.

On race day, Smith would trail for the first lap around the half mile dirt track before knocking Joseph back to last for the first time on Lap 2 before the race's first caution comes out on Lap 3 when the #2 Dayvaults Ford of Hale Hyatt lost grip entering Turn 3 before spinning out and sliding up into Smith who also spun out, giving Hyatt severe right side damage to Hyatt's car before going for two flips before landing back on all four wheels. After a brief pitstop to try and repair the damage, Hyatt would return to the track having lost a lap to the race leaders and would trail the field until the race's second caution came out on Lap 11 that would end the race for the battle for last.

While running in 19th, Joseph would lose traction going in Turn 3 and slid up the track, smacking the outside wall with enough force that would make Joseph flip over four times before landing on all four wheels, his car destroyed and done for the day.

The next two spots would be filled up in the next lap as the #28 LaFayette Ford of Kaitlyn Coyne and #11 Dodge Boys Dodge of Dilan Ebrahimian would also be involved in the same caution but would wreck further along the track in Turn 4.

The remaining Bottom Five would be filled up just six laps later as the race's third and final caution would fly on Lap 16 when the #9 Coors Ford of Bailey Leigh and Hickory last-place finisher the #55 Bill-Tin Chevrolet of Alexa Lake would crash out in Turn 4, ending both their days.

The finish came in his 3rd career start. In the SCRL Short Track Division, it's the 1st for car #1 and the 3rd for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 17th for the #1 and the 331st for running at the finish.

Entering the SCRL's newest series, McClure is a rookie when it comes to the SCRL, having never competed in any series before signing up to compete in this series. McClure's debut would of course start off with a struggle as he qualified 15th and would finish 13th at Dayton before starting 11th and finished a disappointing 17th in the last round at Charlotte.

In qualifying, Rohan Marmot would win his first career series pole, posting a time of 27.698 seconds. McClure would be very impressive in just his third ever attempt in qualifying, posting a time of 27.750 seconds, 0.052 seconds behind Rohan's pole, which placed him 2nd on the starting lineup, the best all season. Starting last in the race was the #32 Crazy Dave's Chevrolet of Juniper Skunktaur, who posted the slowest time of 28.450, 0.752 seconds behind Rohan's pole winning time.

Zane McClure stalls on pit road.
On race day, as the field began to pull out of the pits to begin their pace lap, McClure's car would stall on pit road, due to a flat right front tire, as the field would get held up by his car, forcing a lot of drivers on the inside line to not be lined up when the green flag waved. McClure's team would struggle to get the tire off as McClure would lose a lap before being sent back out on the track. Hoping that other drivers would have a problem, McClure stayed in the fight for the entire event, unfortunately for him, no other drivers would face problems, with McClure being the only driver to not finish on the lead lap when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders; 21st was #57 Dew Drop Inn Ford of Chase Miller, 20th was the #9 Coors Ford of Bailey Leigh, 19th was the #58 Designs Mods Racing Dodge of Joshua Miller and 18th was the #5 Black River Dodge of Bussy Beavers.
