IROC: Reigning ARCA Midget Champion Sebastian Dent knocked out in early "Big One" at Talladega

Sebastian Dent picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL IROC Series career in Race 2 of IROC VIII at the Talladega Superspeedway when he was involved in a multi-car crash after 3 of the 19 laps.

The finish came in his 2nd career start. In the SCRL IROC Series, it's the 2nd for car #2 and the 10th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 18th for the #2 and 286th from a crash.

Sebastian is still considered a rookie in the SCRL despite being a champion in the now discontinued SCRL ARCA Midget Series, a series he scored one of his two career wins, the other coming at Rockingham in Season 3 of the Busch Grand National Series. By winning the championship, Sebastian would become eligible to be chosen to complete in the IROC Series, and in his first ever attempt, he would make the field by being the second driver to be chosen, making him the first member of the Dent family to complete in the IROC Series. Sebastian would impress in his IROC Series debut, starting 5 and would stay with the pack all race long and would finish second to Nick Kennedy in the drag race to the line when the race ended under the yellow flag.

On race day, Sebastian would start 11th after the field's line up would be the inverted finish of how they placed at Daytona, which went the #8 of Nick Kennedy would be starting in the final spot. Kennedy would trail in last for only one turn before knocking the #5 of Adam McDowell into last as he would trail the first lap, but the next time around it was the #1 of Al Lagasee who was in last as the field completed lap 2. As the field entered Turn 1, Dent had made it up to second place and was racing four wide when the #6 of Riley Spurlytube hooked Dent's right fender as the two cars hooked and then turned toward the outside wall, as Dent would hit it hard head on into the concrete wall right in front of Daytona last-place finisher the #10 of Colin Dryburgh as a multi-car crash would break out for the second race in a row, involving a total of five drivers in some force of fashion. Dent's car would be completely destroyed, but he was able to make it back to pit road before he pulled behind the wall, being followed by the #9 of Christian Russel, who also had his front in caved in after hitting Spurlytube in the passenger door, with both drivers being listed as completing three laps, being listed as "out" by Lap 7.

Finishing 10th was the #3 of Jay Barker, who had also been caught up in the Lap 3 wreck, sat on pit road for two laps as his team tried to repair the car as best they could and sent Barker back out onto the track. While he wasn't a factor for the last half of the race, limping around at half speed, he wouldn't lose another lap and was running when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 9th was the aforementioned #10 of Colin Dryburgh and 8th was the #6 of Riley Spurlytube.
