CART: Late race crash at Phoenix gives Derek Greene his second last-place finish of the season; Danyal Gitirokh wins SCRLASTCAR Championship

Derek Greene picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Monday's Miller High Life 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway when his #14 Pepto-Bistol entry was eliminated in a multi-car accident after 29 of 32 laps.

The finish, which came in his 14th career start, was his first on the circuit since the Trenton Twin Indy #1 at the Trenton Speedway when he completed all 20 laps under power; 9 races ago. In the CART Series, it's the 2nd for the #14 and the 6th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #14 and 274th from a crash.

After trailing for the first time in his CART career, Greene finishing 27th in the second twin Trenton race, 13th and 19th in the twin Michigan races, 13th at the series's first road course event at Watkins Glen, 23rd at the third Trenton race, 24th at Ontario, 5th in the third Michigan race before finishing 24th in the last round at Atlanta after being caught up in the Big One on Lap 3.

In qualifying, Chakat Duskwatcher scored the first pole of hir CART career with a time of 26.968 seconds, while Greene would fair decently in qualifying, posting a time of 27.089, only 0.121 seconds off Duskwatchers's pole, placing Greene 16th. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #4 entry of Joe Jefferson, who would struggle to find speed, as he posted a time of 27.215 seconds, 0.247 seconds behind Duskwatchers's pole winning time.

On race day, Jefferson would trail for the first two turns before knocking the #01 entry of Trey Wright into last on the backstretch, as Wright would trail for the first lap before knocking second Atlanta last-place finisher the #18 Miller entry of Jack Lagasee to last on lap 2. Lagasee would trail for two laps before knocking Wright back into last on Lap 4, but Wright's stay in last would only last one lap as he knocked the #87 entry of Chase Miller into last on Lap 5. Miller would trail for two laps before knocking the #11 entry of Marcus Saatchi into last on Lap 7. Saatchi would remain in last for two laps before knocking Miller back to last on Lap 9. Miller would struggle around the one mile track for the next several laps, remaining in last until Lap 16 when he knocked second Michigan last-place finisher the #54 Atari entry of Carol Dent into the final spot. Dent would trail for the next eight laps before passing Miller once again for last as Miller would trail for the next five laps and was trailing when the battle for last ended.

While running in 18th, Indy last-place finisher the #2 Coppertone entry of Mairin Tayami suffered a tire problem entering Turn 1 and would slow entering Turn 1, while trying to move out of the way, drivers tried their best to miss the slowing car but wasn't fast enough as the #19 entry of David Byers would clip Tayami and sent her for a spin right in front of the field as first Phoenix last-place finisher the #98 Miller entry of Al Lagasee had nowhere to go and slammed into Tayami as well as Greene and the #26 entry of Chad Myers as both Greene and Myers would be unable to drive back to the pits, with both cars being scored having completed 29 laps and would be listed as "out" by Lap 31.

For Tayami, she was towed back to the pits and her team repaired the car as best they could before sending her back out onto the track, one lap behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved, finishing 31st, the lone car one lap down.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders; 30th was the aforementioned #11 of Marcus Saatchi and 29th was the #87 of Chase Miller.

Due to Derek Greene finishing last, that instantly gave the Season 1 SCRL CART Series SCRLASTCAR Driver's Championship to Danyal Gitirokh, who won the championship by one Bottom Five finish over Greene. Gitirokh had two last-place finishes on the season, at the first Michigan and third Atlanta race.

The Season 1 SCRL CART Series Championship went to Riley Spurlytube, the first in his SCRL career. Spurlytube had one last-place finish in the season coming at Watkins Glen. Congratulations to Spurlytube for having a great year and making history in the SCRL.

CART: Broken Camshaft prevents Danyal Gitirokh from completing a lap at Atlanta; SCRLASTCAR battle set for Phoenix

Danyal Gitirokh picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Sunday's Rich's Atlanta Classic at the Atlanta Motor Speedway when his #42 Ikea entry fell out with camshaft issues without completing any of the 33 laps.

The finish, which came in his 13th career start, was his first on the circuit since the Norton Twin 125 #1 at the Michigan International Speedway when he was eliminated in a multi-car accident after 13 of 20 laps; 6 races agoIn the CART Series, it's the 2nd for the #42 and the 1st for camshaft issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 8th for the #42 and 38th for camshaft issues.

After trailing for the first time in his CART career, Gitirokh would finish 20th in the second twin Michigan race, before scoring a series best runner up finish to Rohan Marmot at the series's first ever trip to the road course at Watkins Glen. A disappointing 31st at Trenton would be followed by a 26th at Ontario before finishing 18th in the last round at Michigan.

In qualifying, Ray Dent Jr. scored the second pole of his CART career with a time of 31.580 seconds, while Gitirokh would fair decently in qualfying, posting a time of 31.847, only 0.267 seconds off Dent's pole, placing Gitirokh 12th. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #11 entry of Marcus Saatchi, who would struggle to find speed, as he posted a time of 32.420 seconds, a full 0.840 seconds behind Dent's pole winning time.

Daniel Bouchard stalls on pit road.
On race day, as the field began to pull off pit road for their lone pace lap, third Michigan last-place finisher the #6 RCA entry of Daniel Bouchard would suffer tire problems, stalling on pit road and forcing the inside line to be held up. Bouchard would be pushed to his stall as the cars drove past. Meanwhile going down the backstretch, Gitirokh reported a problem to his team as the car began to smoke heavily, pulling to the inside of the track and following the pace car down pit road as the field took the green flag as Gitirokh pulled behind the wall, with him and Bouchard both being scored having not completed a lap. Bouchard would get back out on track, four laps down and would go on to finish 21st, while Gitirokh's team looked over the car and found that the camshaft was broken, ending their day and putting Gitirokh into the SCRLASTCAR battle in the finale at Phoenix.

The remaining Bottom Five would be filled up by the Lap 3 Big-One that would break out; 32nd was the #3 entry of Michael Brown, 31st was the #69 of Chakat Duskwatcher, 30th was Indy last-place finisher the #2 Coppertone entry of Mairin Tayami and 29th was the #88 McDonald's entry of Rohan Marmot.

Entering the season finale at Phoenix, only three drivers can mathematically win the SCRLASTCAR Championship; Danyal Gitirokh, Casey Nanako and Carol Dent. There are three different outcomes that will determine the championship; if Danyal finishes last he will outright win the title, if Casey Nanako finishes last and both Gitirokh and Dent finish outside the Bottom Ten, she will win the championship. Dent is the furthest back, as she will need to finish last outright and for the other two to finish outside the Bottom Ten as well to win the championship. If anyone else but those three drivers finishes last, Gitirokh will win the championship no matter where Nanako or Dent finishes.

While racing toward Turn 2, Tsutomu went too hard into the turn, sliding up the track and into Russel's car, sending both cars into the outside wall, sending Russel for a flip and actually into the fence before landing on his roof and down the track. Russel would get the track workers to flip his car over and actually drove it back to the pits, become scored one more lap while Tsutomu's car would both be towed back to the pits and then into the garage, with Tsutomu would be scored in the final spot.

Entering the first ever season of the SCRL's newest series, Ozkan had found some success in the SCRL, having found victory lane for times in his career and was still looking for his first ever SCRL Championship. Ozkan would finish a respectable 17th in his first start at Phoenix, a 7th at the first Atlanta race and a 5th in the second Atlanta event. Back-to-back 4th place finishes at Indy and the first Trenton events would be followed with his worst finish of the season so far a 32nd at the second Trenton race after crashing out early. Point leader Riley Spurlytube would score the first pole of his CART career with a time of 35.973 seconds, while Ozkan wouldn't be too far behind, posting a time of 36.186, only 0.213 behind Spurlytube's time. CART: Points leader Riley Spurlytube trails in series's first ever road course race; scores his 12th career last-place finish

Riley Spurlytube picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Wednesday's Kent Oil 150 at Watkins Glen International when his #10 entry completed all 9 laps under power.

The finish came in his 9th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #10 and the 5th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 20th for the #10 and 287th for running at the finish.

Entering the first ever season of the SCRL's newest series, Spurlytube is one of the most successful drivers in league history, having scored 15 career wins in various series, but had yet to score a championship despite his talent on all forms of tracks. In his first ever start in the series, Spurlytube would impress right off the bat, finishing 3rd at Phoenix behind race winner Rohan Marmot and Carol Dent. A finish of 15th and 23rd in the twin Atlanta races would keep Spurlytube down in points but that would change as he would win the Indianapolis 500 for the second time in his career and would gain one thousand points, moving him up into the lead. A return trip to victory lane in the next round at Trenton would have been followed by a third win in a row, but a late restart placed Spurlytube 3rd while in the last two rounds at Michigan, Spurlytube would finish 9th in both events.

Rookie Rohan Marmot would impress in qualifying for the second time this season, winning the pole with a time of 75.549 seconds in his 9th CART Series start, and just his tenth overall SCRL start. Spurlytube would struggle around the road course and would post the slowest time in qualifying who posted a time of 77.250, a full 1.701 seconds behind Marmot's time.

On race day, Spurlytube would trail for the first three turns before knocking the #23 ABC entry of Easton Meyers into last and would trail for the first lap around the twisting two mile road course, but the next time by Easton would knock the #55 Members Only entry of Ray Dent into last for the first time since the first race of the season at Phoenix. Dent's stay in the final spot would also last for one lap before he would knock Spurlytube back to last on Lap 3. Unknown at the time, Lap 3 would be the end of the battle for last, as Spurlytube would struggle on the track to try and get around the drivers in front of him, and would finish a full sixteen seconds behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 32nd for the second race in a row was the #11 entry of Marcus Saatchi, 31st was the #64 entry of Ray Dent Jr., 30th was the aforementioned #23 of Easton Myers and 29th was the #26 entry of Chad Myers.

CART: Tire problems at start of the race keeps Carol Dent last at Michigan; assumes SCRLASTCAR Championship lead with 6 races to go

Carol Dent picked up the 1st last place finish of her SCRL CART Series career in Tuesday's Norton Twin 125 #2 at the Michigan International Speedway when her #54 Atari entry completed 19 of the 20 laps under power.

The finish came in her 8th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #54 and the 4th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #54 and 286th for running at the finish.

Entering the first ever season of the SCRL's newest series, Carol was still looking to make a name for herself in the SCRL, as she had only found a small amount of success in her career, visiting victory lane only once, that coming in the SCRL Formula 2 series at Circuit de Nevers - Magny-Cours, a series that she would finish 3rd overall in points, her best season to date. In her first ever race in the CART Series, Carol would impress by finishing runner up to Rohan Marmot at Phoenix, but would struggle in the next race at Atlanta, finishing 29th, before coming back strong with a 9th place in the second twin event at the Georgia track. A 14th in the Indy 500 would be followed by back-to-back disappointing finishes of 26th and 30th at Trenton before finishing 25th in the last round at Michigan.

For the third time this season, qualifying wasn't held, with the field being lined up based on where they had finished in the race before, so that meant that first Atlanta last-place finisher the #1 Doritos entry of Casey Nanako would be starting first, while Carol would be starting 25th. Starting last would be first Michigan last-place finisher the #33 Ikea entry of Danyal Gitirokh.

On race day as the field was starting their lone pace lap, Carol reported to her team that something felt off on the car, as she pulled to the inside of the track to prevent anything getting in the racing line, following the pace car down pit road while the green flag waved. Carol would make it to her stall as the team quickly looked over the car before replacing all four tires as the left rear had been fully deflated, sending Dent out onto the track just five seconds away from the race leaders. Carol would remain on the lead lap for a few more circuits before finally being put a lap down on Lap 11. Carol would fight back and actually get back in front of the leaders on Lap 16 before being passed right back and put back down a lap, and with no caution or other cars having any problems over the final laps, Carol was the only car a lap down.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 32nd was the #11 entry of Marcus Saatchi, 31st was the #24 Charlotte Hornets entry of Samet Ozkan, 30th was the #13 Interstate Batteries entry of Dexter Black and 29th was the aforementioned #1 of Casey Nanako.

The finish came in his 7th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #42 and the 3rd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 7th for the #42 and 271st from a crash.

Entering the first ever season of the SCRL's newest series, Gitirokh had been a veteran of the SCRL for several years, having picked up five career wins, four of which came in the SCRL ARCA Late Model Series, a season in which he would pick up his first ever SCRL Championship. Danyal's CART career would start off with a lackluster 26th at Phoenix, finishing 3rd and 4th in the twin Atlanta races, 29th at Indy before finishing 31st and 26th in the twin Trenton races.

Rookie Chase Miller would impress in qualifying, win the pole with a time of 39.698 seconds in just his seventh start. Gitirokh would struggle with his car in trying to find speed as he would post a time of 39.889 seconds, 0.191 seconds behind Miller's pole winning time, placing Gitirokh 26th overall. Posting the slowest time in qualifying was the #04 of Matt Boyle, who posted a time of 40.020, 0.322 seconds behind Miller.

On race day, Miller would trail for the first lap around the two mile track before knocking second Atlanta last-place finisher the #18 Miller entry of Jack Lagasee into last on Lap 2, but Lagasee was determined to not trail for the second time this season, as he would pass and knock points leader the #10 entry of Riley Spurlytube into last on Lap 3. Spurlytube would also remain in last for only one lap as he would knock the #68 Jordache Jeans entry of Christian Russel into last on Lap 4. By the time the field had made it's way back around to the start/finish line, the #77 of Ryan Pritchard had taken the final spot for the first time in the race, but his stay in last would also last just one lap before he knocked the #26 entry of Chad Myers into last on Lap 6. On Lap 7, it was the #88 McDonald's entry of Rohan Marmot who would trail, as he would become the first driver to trail back-to-back laps, before he knocked Chad back into last on Lap 9. Marcus Saatchi would fall back to last for the first time in his entire CART Series career on Lap 10, but his stay would be brief, as he knocked pole winner Chase Miller into last on Lap 11, but the next time by Miller had knocked the #6 RCA entry of Daniel Bouchard into last before the next time around it was the #4 entry of Joe Jefferson who was in last and would be there when the battle for last came to a crashing end.

As the field entered Turn 2, Danyal found himself racing four wide with the #13 Interstate Batteries entry of Dexter Black, second Trenton last-place finisher the #33 Purina entry of Matt McIntyre and the #7 Red Baron entry of Jay Jefferson as Danyal's car made slight contact with Black's car, sending both cars up the track and collecting four other cars, with Danyal hitting the wall at a scary angle that was head on into the concrete wall. Danyal's car was destroy beyond repair and was the only car unable to make it back to pit road, with the car listed as "out" by Lap 15.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers also involved in the multi-car wreck, but were scored having completed 14 laps; 32nd was the aforementioned #33 of Matt McIntyre, 31st was the #48 entry of Carlos Rodriguez, 30th was the #7 of Jay Jefferson and 29th was Indy last-place finisher the #2 Coppertone entry of Mairin Tayami.

CART: Engine failure prevents Matt McIntyre from completing a lap at Trenton

Matt McIntyre picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Tuesday's Trenton Twin Indy #2 at the Trenton Speedway when his #33 Purina entry fell out with engine issues without completing any of the 10 laps.

The finish came in his 6th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #33 and the 1st for engine issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #33 and 60th for engine issues.

McIntyre is still a relative when it comes to the SCRL, as he made his debut in the first ever SCRL Chili Bowl, a race he would advance to and would go on to finish 13th in the overall race. With only one race under his belt, McIntyre was amazingly able to find a ride for the brand new CART Series, and would finish a respectable 14th in his first ever start at Phoenix. A 8th place finish in the first Atlanta event would be followed by a 10th in the race's second event before going on to finish 16th in the series's biggest race of the season at Indy, before finishing 28th in the last round at Trenton.

For the second time this season, qualifying wasn't held, with the field being lined up based on where they had finished in the race before, so that meant that points leader Riley Spurlytube would lead the field to the green and McIntyre would be starting in the 28th position. Starting in the final spot would be first Trenton last-place finisher the #14 Pepto-Bistol entry of Derek Greene.

On race day as the drivers began to make their lone pace lap of the race, McIntyre's car would stall on the outside line, holding up the line, while at the same time, the #54 Atari entry of Carol Dent would also stall on the start, with both drivers being towed back to the pits. As the field made their way into Turn 1, second Atlanta last-place finisher the #18 Miller entry of Jack Lagasee would be forced to limp back around to the pits, reporting of a flat tire. The officials were forced to wave off the start of the race, with Lagasee getting back to the pits, his team replacing only the right side tires before sending him back out on track; Jack would go on to finish 25th.

As for McIntyre and Dent, Carol's team was able to repair the brake problems the car had and would send her back out and would go on to finish 30th, but the engine problems that McIntyre had was too severe, with the team pushing the car behind the wall. It wouldn't be until Lap 2 that McIntyre's car would be retired from the race.

The next two spots would be filled by the race's first caution of the day. As the #24 Charlotte Hornets entry of Samet Ozkan, who entered the event 462 points behind Spurlytube, would be taken out in a Lap 2 crash at the same time as McIntyre's car was listed as "out". Ozkan was racing for  place when he was spun out by the #13 Interstate Batteries entry of Dexter Black, sending Ozkan up the track and right in front of the #97 Mountain Dew entry of Dilan Ebrahimian, with Ozkan flipping over five times before landing on all four wheels, while Ebrahimian would hit the outside wall nearly head on, both cars destroyed and done for the day.

Rounding out the Bottom Five in 29th was the #21 Alpha Beta entry of Clay Myers, who would be involved in the final caution that would send the #6 RCA entry of Daniel Bouchard head on into the outside wall, as Myers would limp back around and took the checkered flag on pit road.

CART: Derek Greene trails flag to flag at Trenton

Derek Greene picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Monday's Trenton Twin Indy #1 at the Trenton Speedway when his #14 Pepto-Bistol entry completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 5th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #14 and the 3rd for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 8th for the #14 and 285th for running at the finish.

Greene was one of twelve drivers making their CART Series debut when the series was announced in early March. Greene would impress in his first ever race, qualifying and finishing 6th in his debut at Phoenix, 31st in the first Atlanta race before coming back to finishing 13th in the second trip to Atlanta before finishing 33rd in the last round at Indy after being caught in the race's first caution of the day

The entry list for the series's fifth race of the season was back to the usual thirty three drivers as both Chris Kyle and Blaise Zebrataur's attempt at Indy are the lone planned starts for the two drivers for the entire season.

On race day, Greene would struggle more in the race, with the driver reporting to his team that the car was a struggle to drive and it was too tight, but Greene decided to stay on track, hoping another car would have a problem or a caution would come out to fix his car, but neither of those would come, as the the second time this second the race was ran caution free, with Greene finishing seven seconds behind the race leaders.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 32nd was the #4 entry of Joe Jefferson, 31st was the #42 entry of Danyal Gitirokh, 30th was the #87 entry of Chase Miller and 29th was the #44 Carl's Jr. entry of Georgio Tsutomu.

CART: Multi-car crash just seconds after the start of the Indy 500 prevents Mairin Tayami from completing a lap

Mairin Tayami picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Sunday's Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway when his #2 Coppertone entry was involved in a multi-car crash without completing any of the 20 laps.

The finish came in his 4th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #2 and the 2nd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 15th for the #2 and 270th from a crash.

Tayami was one of twelve drivers not only making their CART Series debut, but making their overall SCRL debut, with all twelve drivers looking to make a name for themselves in the SCRL's newest series. Tayami would qualify 16th at Phoenix but would finish a disappointing 24th. At the second race of the season at Atlanta, Tayami would qualify an impressive 8th but again would finish down in the order, a 19th. With qualifying not being held and the field set by how they finished in the first Atlanta event, Tayami would start 19th and would go on to score the worst finish of his career so far, a 27th.

The entry list for the series's first ever trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, for the site of the most prestigious race of the season, the Indianapolis 500, would be bumped up from the usual 33 cars to 35. The first newest driver to be added to the entry list by the Porsche Motorsports team, and would be the #41 Pedigree entry of Blaise Zebrataur, who was looking to compete in his first SCRL race since the Chili Bowl in January, a race he finished 14th in. While just hours after Blaise entered the event, the field was knocked up to 35 cars, the biggest field in CART Series history to date, when ISCR League Owner Chris Kyle was entered by owner Vince Granatelli to drive the #60 Target entry, in Kyle's first ever race since the Chili Bowl as well, a race he placed 20th in.

Samet Ozkan would win the pole with a time of 48.063 seconds, while Tayami would struggle with his car, posting a time of 48.459 seconds, 0.396 seconds behind Ozkan's pole winning time, placing Tayami in 26th position. Posting the slowest time during qualifying was the #7 entry of Jay Jefferson, who was 0.707 seconds behind Ozkan's lap time.

On race day, Tayami would trail for the first three turns around the two and half mile track when chaos would break out in Turn 3. As the leaders entered Turn 3 at full throttle, the leaders slid up the track and into the outside wall with the #14 Pepto-Bistol entry of Derek Greene being hit and spinning out right in front of the field, with most drivers being able to avoid his spun out car, except for the #68 Jordache Jeans entry of Christian Russel, who slammed into Greene's car, causing his car to flip over once before landing back on all four wheels. While directly right behind Russel, Tayami had nowhere to go and slammed into the back of Russel, destroying the front end of his car and sliding up the track, narrowly getting hit by another car before Tayami was able to regain control of his car. While Russel's car stayed on the track unable to move, Tayami would make it back to pit road and then pulled behind the wall, with the officials first scoring Russel last, before with no explanation, Tayami's car was moved back to last place despite the fact he was able to drive back to the garage, both cars being scored having not completed a lap.

Finishing 33rd was the #14 of Derek Greene, who amazingly was able to not only drive it back around to the pits, but the team was able to work on the car briefly, sent him back out then told him to pull behind the wall, insuring that he would be scored having completed a lap, and he was able to a roar of cheers from the crowd.

The remaining Bottom Five wouldn't be filled for another five laps when the race's second caution of the day came out: 32nd was the #6 RCA entry of Daniel Bouchard and 31st was the #44 Carl's Jr. entry of Georgio Tsutomu.

On race day, Nanako would remain in last for only the first two turns before she passed and knocked the #13 Interstate Batteries entry of Dexter Black into last, a spot he would hold for only one lap before knocking the #3 Canon entry of Michael Brown a spot he would hold for one lap as well before knocking Phoenix last-place finisher the #98 Miller entry of Al Lagasee into last on Lap 3. Al would also remain in last for one lap before knocking the #30 BP entry of Titus Marciniak before knocking Casey Nanako back to last on Lap 5, but the next lap the #2 Coppertone entry of Mairin Tayami was in the final spot, and the trend would continue as on Lap 7 the #68 Jordache Jeans entry of Christian Russel into last on Lap 8 before Nanako would fall back to last on Lap 8 and was running in the spot when the battle for last came to an end.

While battling for 10th, Lagasee was spun out by the #42 Danyal Gitirokh with Jack spinning down the track and hitting the inside guardrail before spinning back across the track and in front of the #04 of Matt Boyle, who hit Jack head on as the two cars spun across the track in Turn 1, collecting three other drivers in what turned out to be the lone caution of the day. Lagasee's car would be unable to move from the spot while Boyle would limp back to pit road and then into the garage, with Jack being towed back to the garage, both cars would be scored as competing 9 laps, while Jack was scored in the final spot due to being towed back.

CART: Al Lagasee trails in caution free race at Phoenix in series first ever race

Al Lagasee picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in the Season 1 Arizona Republic Jimmy Bryan 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway when his #98 Miller entry completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 1st career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #98 and the 1st for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 8th for the #98 and 283rd for running at the finish.

After several years of team owners, who disagreed with the direction and leadership of USAC, with the then-novel idea of car owners sanctioning and promoting their own series collectively instead of relying on a neutral body to do so, the Championship Auto Racing Teams, or CART, was born. After a few months of teams getting together sponsorship and cars, a full roster of thirty three drivers would travel to the desert in Arizona for the first ever sanctioned race of the brand new series.

Rohan Marmot would make history by becoming the first driver to win a pole in the new series history, posting a time of 26.858 seconds, while Lagasee would struggle with his car, posting a time of 27.081 seconds, 0.223 seconds behind Rohan's pole winning time, placing Lagasee in 31st position. Posting the slowest time during qualifying was the #97 Mountain Dew entry of Dilan Ebrahimian, who was 0.323 seconds behind Rohan's lap time.

On race day, Ebrahimian would trail for only the first two turns before making a move on the backstretch and would knock the #55 Members Only entry of Ray Dent into the final spot, with Dent becoming the first driver to trail a lap in the CART Series. Dent's stay in last would last only one circuit as he knocked Al into the final spot for the first time. Al would also only trail for one lap before he knocked the #13 Interstate Batteries of Dexter Black into the final spot on Lap 3. Black would trail for two circuits before knocking Ray Dent back to last on Lap 5, but the next circuit around the #1 Doritos of Casey Nanako fell back to last on Lap 6, trailing for two laps before knocking Black back to last on Lap 8. Black would struggle with his car around the one mile track over the next few laps, but staying within one second for the entire time, before finally passing and knocking Al back to last on Lap 12. Unknown at the time, but that final drop into last would be the last change for last place, with Al staying with the tail end of the field, but never being able to make a move, finishing nine seconds behind when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 32nd was the aforementioned #55 of Ray Dent, 31st was the #13 of Dexter Black, 30th was the #1 of Casey Nanako and 29th was Al's brother, the #18 Miller entry of Jack Lagasee.
