Riley Spurlytube picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CART Series career in Wednesday's Kent Oil 150 at Watkins Glen International when his #10 entry completed all 9 laps under power.
The finish came in his 9th career start. In the CART Series, it's the 1st for the #10 and the 5th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 20th for the #10 and 287th for running at the finish.
Entering the first ever season of the SCRL's newest series, Spurlytube is one of the most successful drivers in league history, having scored 15 career wins in various series, but had yet to score a championship despite his talent on all forms of tracks. In his first ever start in the series, Spurlytube would impress right off the bat, finishing 3rd at Phoenix behind race winner Rohan Marmot and Carol Dent. A finish of 15th and 23rd in the twin Atlanta races would keep Spurlytube down in points but that would change as he would win the Indianapolis 500 for the second time in his career and would gain one thousand points, moving him up into the lead. A return trip to victory lane in the next round at Trenton would have been followed by a third win in a row, but a late restart placed Spurlytube 3rd while in the last two rounds at Michigan, Spurlytube would finish 9th in both events.
Rookie Rohan Marmot would impress in qualifying for the second time this season, winning the pole with a time of 75.549 seconds in his 9th CART Series start, and just his tenth overall SCRL start. Spurlytube would struggle around the road course and would post the slowest time in qualifying who posted a time of 77.250, a full 1.701 seconds behind Marmot's time.
On race day, Spurlytube would trail for the first three turns before knocking the #23 ABC entry of Easton Meyers into last and would trail for the first lap around the twisting two mile road course, but the next time by Easton would knock the #55 Members Only entry of Ray Dent into last for the first time since the first race of the season at Phoenix. Dent's stay in the final spot would also last for one lap before he would knock Spurlytube back to last on Lap 3. Unknown at the time, Lap 3 would be the end of the battle for last, as Spurlytube would struggle on the track to try and get around the drivers in front of him, and would finish a full sixteen seconds behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.
The remaining Bottom Five were: 32nd for the second race in a row was the #11 entry of Marcus Saatchi, 31st was the #64 entry of Ray Dent Jr., 30th was the aforementioned #23 of Easton Myers and 29th was the #26 entry of Chad Myers.
