Throwback Formula E: Early crash at Hungaroring makes Eli Bright the second driver to trail a race twice in one season

Eli Bright picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Formula E Series career in the Season 1 Hungarian Sprint at Hungaroring when his #3 Red Bull Racing was involved in a multi-car crash after 2 of the 5 laps.

The finish, which came in his 7th start, was his first on the circuit since the South Africa Sprint at the Kyalami Circuit when he completed all 11 laps under power, 5 races ago

After trailing the field at Kyalami, Bright finished 13th at Shanghai, 19th at Monaco before finishing 15th in the last round at Long Beach.

On race day, Bright rolled off starting 19th while starting in the final spot was the #8 Haas F1 Team of Matt Johnson. The first lap around the 3.968 mile road course was rather calm with no incidents among the twenty two drivers, but as soon as the field entered Turn 3, the battle for last quickly ended. While running in 11th, the #11 Sahara Force India F1 Team of Tommy Hudson lost control and spun off track, hitting the outside wall and coming back across the track. Bright, who was five position behind Hudson, entered Turn 3 too fast and slid off course and with no time to react, slammed into the back of Hudson's car, sending both cars up into the air before coming back down on all fours. Hudson was able to make it back around to the pits for repairs and would finish 21st, as the last car on the lead lap, while Bright would coast around back to the garage with his car heavily smoking, done for the day.

Rounding out the Bottom Five was: 20th was the aforementioned #8 of Matt Johnson, 19th was the #26 Scuderia Toro Rosso of Keinan Busch and 18th was the #94 of Manor Racing of Alex DeFranco.
