Throwback TRUCKS: All time race winner Truttle fails to complete a lap at Phoenix due to broken camshaft

Truttle picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series career in the Season 1 GM Goodwrench / Delco Battery 200 at the Phoenix International Raceway when his #31 Performance Race Cars Chevrolet fell out with camshaft problems without completing any of the 32 laps.

The finish came in his 20th career start.

Truttle at this point in his career had already built up a hall of fame career by becoming the league's first ever champion back in the NASCAR Legends Series, holding the then all time record for most wins in a career, 26, and scoring the most wins in a season with 8 in his championship season and was looking to have the same success in the brand new truck series. In his debut for the new series, Truttle finished 17th at Phoenix, 38th at Tucson, 33rd at Saugus, 11th at Mesa Marin, 32nd at Portland, 4th at Evergreen, 35th at I-70, 5th at Louisville before scoring a series best runner up to Josh Nixey at Bristol. A 25th at Milwaukee, 26th at Colorado, 39th at Heartland Park, 25th at IRP, 11th at Flemington, 3rd at Richmond, 5th at Martinsville, 14th at North Wilkesboro, 33rd at Sears Point before finishing 8th in the last round at Mesa Marin.

On race day, Truttle was scheduled to roll off starting 25th while starting last was the #98 Raybestos Ford of Kelly Lee but as soon as the command was given for the trucks to begin their pace lap, Truttle's truck stalled on the grid and then was pushed into his pit stall to get out of the way of the other drivers. The Richard Childress Racing team would pop the hood and look under the hood to see what the problem was as the green flag was waved. The first caution would come out as the field entered Turn 3 when the #29 Winnebago Dodge of Dinkdrinker was spun out by the #7 Exide Batteries Ford of Jay Barker, at the same time Truttle's truck was pushed behind the wall for further diagnose the problem and it wasn't until the race was able to go back racing that the truck was retired from the event, a broken camshaft being the reason the truck wouldn't start.

It would take another twenty laps for another spot in the Bottom Five to be filled as finishing 39th was Richmond last-place finisher the #35 Rain-X / Press Pass Racing Cards Chevrolet of Cam Nixey, who suffered a broken header while running in 29th on Lap 20.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 38th was the aforementioned #29 of Dinkdrinker, 37th was the #24 DuPont Refinishes Chevrolet of John Arndt and 36th was the #8 MJ Soffe Chevrolet of Eli Bright.

Despite the success he had found in other series, Truttle was unable to find victory lane in the truck series, with his runner up at Bristol the closest he ever got to a win. Truttle would finish 23rd in the final point standings and is currently ranked 2nd on the all time wins list with 26 wins, thirteen behind Chakat Whitelion. Truttle hasn't competed in a SCRL sanctioned race since finishing 3rd at Talladega in the season finale of Season 7 of the IROC Series.
