Matthew Hubert picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series career in the Virginia Is For Lovers 200 at the Richmond International Raceway when his #45 10-10-345 Ford completed all 20 laps under power.
The finish, which came in his 21st career series start, was his first on the circuit since the NAPA Autocare 200 at the Nazareth Speedway when he completed 17 of the 20 laps under power; 6 races ago. In the Truck Series's last-place rankings, it was the 38th for running at the finish and 2nd for the #45. Across SCRL's top three series, it was the 128th for running at the finish and the 5th for #45.
After trailing the field for the first time ever at Nazareth, Hubert would struggle in the series debut at Michigan by finishing 24th repeating that performance in the next round at Loudon, 21st at IRP, 27th at Gateway before finishing 10th in the last round at Heartland Park. Entering Richmond, Hubert sits 9th in the driver points and 2nd in the Rookie of the Year points.
The entry list for the eighth time this season would be bumped up to 37 as Team 23 Racing made their fifth appearance of the season, the last being at Nashville where the rookie scored a surprising win. However this time instead of Jamie, Blaise Zebrataur was listed on the entry list as the driver. In qualifying, Christian Russel would score his second career series pole, posting a time of 23.451 seconds. Hubert would truck struggle in qualifying around the 0.750 mile track, posting a time of 23.892 seconds, 0.441 seconds behind Russel's time, placing him 34th on the starting line up. The #31 Auto Trim Design Ford of Kristian Bracken would be the last to get in on speed, posting a time of 24.018 seconds, who was 0.567 seconds behind Russel's lap time. Joining them at the back was the #23 Red Line Oil Ford of Jamie Timber, who would make a driver swap with Blaise Zebtataur who had qualified the truck in 9th.
On race night, Timber would trail for the first lap before knocking Bracken back to last, who would trail for two laps before knocking Memphis last-place finisher the #86 Royal Crown Cola Dodge of Cameron Hathaway into last on Lap 4. Hathaway would trail for two laps before knocking the #32 Miller Brothers Garage Dodge of Juniper Skunktaur into last on Lap 6. Skunktaur would trail just one lap before knocking Hathaway back into last on Lap 7 before Bracken would take last back for the second time on Lap 8. Bracken would trail for two laps once again before passing and knocking Hubert back to last for the first time on Lap 11. Hubert would struggle to gain positions over the final nine laps and would be in the final spot when crossing the start/finish line to complete the race.
