Nick Holiday picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Shaker Memorial career in the 8th Annual Shaker Memorial Race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway when his #99 Office Depot Ford completed all 33 laps under power.
The finish came in his 7th start.
The Shaker Memorial began in 2015 when the dog of this blog's author, Shaker, passed away in 2015, in her honor, a yearly race is held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the closest track to where she lived.
The entry list for the 8th annual, but 9th running of the event, was for the fifth year in a row that was a full 42 car field, as no former winner of this event would be competing this year.
In qualifying, Trey Wright would win the pole with a time of 26.740. Holiday would struggle around the 1.540 track, posting a time of 26.868, while it was only 0.128 seconds off Wright's pole time, it would place Holiday 34th on the starting line up. Starting last in the race was the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet of James Johnson, who posted a time of 26.571 seconds, 0.245 behind Wright's pole winning time.
With over one hundred twenty thousand people in the stands, the green flag waved as Johnson would trail for the first lap before next time around, he had knocked the #14 VB/APlus at Sunoco Ford of Tony Newman to last on Lap 2. Newman would trail for only one circuit before he knocked the #01 U.S. Army Chevrolet of Kane King to last on Lap 3, with King trailing for two laps before knocking the #33 Sylvania Chevrolet of Richard Torres to last on Lap 5. Torres would trail for only one lap before he knocked the #31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet of Sebastian Torres to last on Lap 6, before Sebastian would knock the #19 Dodge Dealers / UAW Dodge of Will Long to last on Lap 7.
The #39 Texaco / Havoline "Shine On" Dodge of Nicolas Anelka would take the final spot on Lap 8 but his stay in last was just for one lap as well as he knocked the #55 Year One Chevrolet of Ryan Conley into last on Lap 9. Conley would remain in last for only one lap before knocking the #1 Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Chevrolet of Mitchell Hodack into last on Lap 10. Hodack would trail for two laps before knocking Will Long back to last on Lap 12 before Nicolas Anelka reclaimed the final spot again on Lap 13. Anelka would trail for the next four laps before knocking the #77 Dodge of Bulldog67 to last on Lap 18, with Will Long take the final spot back on Lap 20. Long would trail for two laps before Holiday would fall back to last for the first time on Lap 22. Ryan Conley would return to last on Lap 23 and would trail for two circuits before knocking the #0 NetZero / Best Buy Chevrolet of Chase Miller into last on Lap 25.
Miller would trail for two laps before knocking Holiday back to last once again on Lap 27, before Holiday would knock Conley back to last on Lap 28. Conley would trail for two laps before Holiday back to last on Lap 31 and with Holiday trying as hard as he could to gain a position over the final two laps, he would come up short when the checkered flag waved.
