CUP: Blown engine on second lap at Carrell gives Brent Davison his fourth career last-place finish; six way battle set for LASTCAR title at Lakeview

Brent Davison picked up the 4th last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Race 40 at the Carrell Speedway when his #58 Kaiser fell out with engine problems after completing 2 of the 20 laps.

The finish, which came in his 59th career series start, was his first on the circuit since Race 17 at the Asheville-Weaverville Speedway when he completed all 20 laps under power; 23 races ago. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 2nd for car #58 and the 3rd for engine issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 8th for the #58 and 63rd for engine issues.

After trailing at Asheville-Weaverville, Davison would continue to struggle by finishing 19th in the next round at Monroe County, back-to-back 11th place finishes at Altamont and Michigan State Fairgrounds, 8th at Fort Miami, before scoring his fourth career win at Morristown. A disappointing 21st at Air Base would be followed by a 28th at Darlington, 3rd at Columbia, 21st at Central City, 24th at Langhorne, 10th at Charlotte, 3rd at Dayton, 18th at Wilson, 17th at Hillsborough, 33rd at Thompson, 20th at Pine Grove, 16th at Martinsville, 21st at Oakland, 39th at North Wilkesboro, 29th at Marchbanks, 21st at Speedway Park before finishing 8th in the last round at Lakewood.

The entry list for the 14th time this season would be filled with both the full time and part-time drivers, the first time since Race 39 at the Lakewood Speedway, 1 race ago.

In qualifying, Chakat Duskwatcher scored hir 3rd pole of the year, with a time of 14.473 seconds. Davison would struggle around the half mile dirt track, posting a time of 14.694, 0.221 seconds behind Duskwatcher's time, placing Davison 37th. Securing the 42nd and final starting spot was first Hillsborough last-place finisher the #83 Ford of James Blaiser, who posted a time of 14.735 seconds, 0.262 seconds behind Duskwatcher's time.

When the race started, Blaiser would keep a hold of the final spot, falling three seconds behind the race leaders after the first lap, with the margin growing the next time around to 5.586 seconds behind Duskwatcher when the battle for last would end that same lap. Davison, who at this point had climbed up to 35th, would slow going down the backstretch, pulling to the inside of the track before heading to pit road. Davison's team would look under the hood and found that the problem was terminal, pushing the car behind the wall, his car wasn't listed as "out" until Lap 7, but Davison had already taken the final position two laps earlier on Lap 5.

It would take another three laps before the next three spots would be filled, as a crash on Lap 10 would knock the #42 Petty Special Plymouth of Ty Westner, two time last-place finisher the #10 Ford of Chase Chryst and points leader the #64 Plymouth of Chase Abbott out of the race.

Rounding out the Bottom Five in 38th was the #24 Plymouth of David Waide, who would finish three laps behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.

With the series entering the final race, six drivers have a chance of winning the SCRLASTCAR Championship: Brian Grigsby, Josh Barker, Chris Kyle, Sergeant Young, Andrew James and Brent James. If any of those drivers finish last at Lakeview, they will win the title outright, but if any other drivers does, it will give the championship to Brian Grigsby, no matter where the other drivers finish as Grigsby will win the tie breaker over Josh Barker by virtue of having more Bottom Ten finishes.

CUP: Second lap crash at Lakewood gives Andrew James his third last-place finish of the season; enters six-way battle for LASTCAR title with two races to go

Andrew James picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Grand National Series career in Race 39 at the Lakewood Speedway when his #92 Fabulous Hudson Hornet Hudson completed all 10 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 39th career series start, was his first on the circuit since Race 26 at the Central City Speedway when his #51 Plymouth completed all 20 laps under power; 13 races ago. In the SCRL Grand National Series, it's the 4th for car #92 and the 49th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #92 and 370th for running at the finish.

After trailing at Central City, Andrew would rebound in the next round at Langhorne, finishing a impressive 8th before struggling once again at Charlotte, where he would finish 21st. A 13th at Dayton would be followed by a 6th at Wilson, a disappointing 40th at Hillsborough, 37th at Thompson, 5th at Pine Grove, 13th at Martinsville before finishing runner up at Oakland Stadium. Another disappointing outside of the points paying spots would continue with a 29th at North Wilkesboro, a finish in points of 14th at Marchbanks before finishing 7th in the last round at Speedway Park.

A 15th at Morristown, 10th at Air Base and a 20th at Darlington would be followed by Tuckett scoring his first career SCRL sanctioned win at Columbia. The win at Columbia wouldn't give Tuckett much time to celebrate as a disappointing 17th at Central City, 30th at Langhorne and a 13th at Charlotte would follow before Tuckett rebounded with a 4th at Dayton and a 3rd at Wilson. A 13th at Hillsborough would keep his streak of three points finishes would end the next round at Thompson, where he struggled to finish 41st before bouncing back with another 4th at Pine Grove. A 19th at Martinsville was followed by a 20th at Oakland, 7th at North Wilkesboro before finishing 3rd in the last round at Marchbanks.

The entry list for the 13th time this season would be filled with both the full time and part-time drivers, the first time since Race 37 at the Marchbanks Speedway, 2 races ago.

In qualifying, Chris Kyle scored his 4th pole of the year, with a time of 33.793 seconds. Andrew would struggle around the one mile dirt track, posting a time of 34.209, 0.416 seconds behind Kyle's time, placing Andrew 37th. Securing the 42nd and final starting spot was two-time last-place finisher the #69 Oldsmobile of Chakat Duskwatcher, who posted a time of 34.371 seconds, 0.578 seconds behind Kyle's time.

When the race started, Duskwatcher would trail for the first lap, falling almost a full two seconds behind the race leaders when the field make their first trip back to the start finish line, a position shi would hold until the field entered Turn 4 for the second time. While battling for 37th, Andrew hadn't made any progress yet as he was in a three wide battle with the #7 Gray Ghost Oldsmobile of John Alabama and three time last-place finisher the #89 Plymouth of Brent James, as the three cars would lock together before heading up the track and slamming into the concrete wall, with Alabama's car hitting the wall so hard that it lifted the back tires off the ground, while Andrew hit the wall nearly head on, bringing out the race's lone caution. All three cars would refuse to come to the pits for repairs, and when the green flag came back out, James who got the most damage from the wreck, would trail for the remaining laps and would finish a full nine seconds behind the race leaders when the checkered flag waved.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 41st was the aforementioned #7 of John Alabama, 40th was the #89 of Brent James, 39th was the #69 of Chakat Duskwatcher and 38th was current SCRLASTCAR Championship leader the #120 Hudson of Brian Grigsby.
With two races to go, six drivers now have trailed the field three times this season: Brian Grigsby, Josh Barker, Chris Kyle, Sergeant Young, Andrew James and Brent James.
